while at appleseed this weekend one of the instructers had a 10/22 that he set into an m1 garand stock

the thing looked great (reminded me more of a reising submachine gun than an m1 but you could tell what he was going for)

the rifle had the fullsized stock on it with a new top hand guard that he said he had to make to fill in the gap for the op rod then he said that he had to make more room in the back for the 10/22 reciever the filled in some of the front with a piece of wood from and old stock(he did a great job looked like an arsenal stock repair) the rifle didnt have the front handguard or the gas tube

in order for me to stop at the same point what metal will i have to buy?

i know for sure the metal buttplate w/screws, the rear sling mount, stock ferrule and the swival

will i need the lower band and roll pin? or the hand guard ferrule?

im just going off of diagrams i found on numrich

any tips? comments?

As an altenative, you might consider the Ramline stocks, they are very close to the M1A stocks and have a very similar feel.

Good luck on your project, please post Pics when you are done.

I have to agree with rcmodel that the M1 carbine conversion looks much sweeter. However, I think the description of the carbine conversion process in the links he posted would serve as a guide for a Garand conversion.

For those interested, here's a re-sized photo of the Garand conversion from an appleseedinfo.org thread:

anyone know what metal parts im going to need

paintballdude902,

It is hard for us to tell you what you will need not having done one ourselves.
Hopefully, someone who has (or has a better idea how) will chime in.

I did try and make one of those larger pictures posted on appleseedinfo.org a little more useful for you. It is located here: http://gbrannon.bizhat.com/m1.jpg

There is a bigger diagram of the Garand here.

BTW - Happy Birthday:)

Regards,
Greg

hey thanks alot gb that is a much better diagram

it seams like the only metal parts im going to need are the buttplate, butt sling mount, stock ferrule, front sling mount, and the front handguard ferrule

the hardest part seams to be reinletting the stock for the 10/22 reciever and cutting the front handguard down then making it so i can put the front ferrule on

but i guess since i have some down time with only having 2 classes a day i need a new project
