I just got a Lee Turret press from a friend. Its missing parts and was wondering how to tell how old it is. I'm almost 100% sure its a Lee 3 hole turret press after looking it up on Lee's website. But I have I guess you can say just the main piece of it no dies or anything. I looked and found an 4 hole update kit with auto index but the question is that Lees website says pre 2005 for example. How can I find out what all I need to get this up and running. I can email you pics of it if that will help. And I know everyone is out of everything dealing with reloading but would like to go ahead and get on back order lists. Thanks ajwinkis

You can post the pics right here. Then we can all see. :)

Does it have a model number? A schematic should be available on-line somewhere.. it'd then be pretty easy to see what you need.
GT1 is correct, if you'd post a good pic or two there's probably plenty of folk here that'd know exactly what you'd need and or want.

fsreloading.com should be able to handle your parts order. Or a complete new Classic 4-hole turret kit ready to go less dies and components is about $200. Also, if you want to go that route, Lee will refurbish that press to back to new condition for 1/2 the price of a new one. That style press is know as their "Deluxe' model. The Classic is the preferred one to get.

I took it to my gunsmith friend and he informed that it was a OLDER press. After added up everything needed, I could buy a Lee pro 1000 (if prices dont any higher) for just alittle more. And since this will be used for 9mm target shooting the Lee pro 1000 would be a good choice for me I think. Or is there another progressive press similar to the Lee pro 1000 that i shuld look at? thanks for your help

I like The Pro1000. Make sure the primer pockets are not closed or it will cause havoc.

I bought one like that in 1982. The base developed a hairline crack last year. I sent it back to lee and they refurbished it at NO COST to me. It's a great press. I never did the 4 hole update as I am satisfied with 3 holes.
All that is needed to load is 3 hole turrets, dies, shell holders, a scale, powder measure and a set of calipers.
Sometimes I find 3 hole turrets for FREE or just a few bucks. Good luck

lee pro 1000

thanks for all the help. Now on to the waiting lists for the press, casing, bullets etc. hopefully it wont be to long. thanks again!!!

It appears (as others have concluded) you have the Lee Deluxe Turret press, missing a turret disk and the primer arm.

With those two items, you would have a working press. I suspect the disk could be had without waiting very long. The priming arm would be similarly quick in coming or you could use an off-press hand priming tool.

That would get you to the point where you could at least load SOMETHING.

I don't know how long you would have to wait for a Pro-1000 or a new, complete turret press (The Lee Classic Turret is far superior to the Lee Deluxe Turret, by the way).

The Pro-1000 press is decent; I had two of them. I use a Lee Classic Turret now and am much happier. Monitoring all the simultaneous actions drove me crazy. I also load multiple calibers and caliber swaps are much simpler with the turret press. Ultimately, I found the Pro-1000 to be only marginally faster than the Classic Turret, mainly because I was stopping at every stroke to check on all the events (primer set, place a bullet, see the powder drop etc). All those things took me the same amount of time on the progressive as they do on the turret.

What I am saying is, if you get a chance at a Classic Turret before the Pro-1000, get the one you can get. Also, don't reject the Lee Loadmaster progressive if one becomes available. It's not that much more expensive than the Pro-1000 and has 5 stations available.

My advice: Get the parts to put the press you have into service (3-hole disk and primer arm-less than $20-$25, I bet). When you can get your progressive, sell this one.

Good luck.

old lee press

Yeah, Im going to look further into getting parts for this press since nobody has a real idea about when the stock is going to get back on the shelves. What are you'll dong for powder, primers and bullets?? I can find brass but nothing else. Thanks again

That's a fine press, I have loaded thousands and thousands of rounds on one just like that. Add the primer arm, you can index or not index, doesn't really matter. You'll figure out how to catch the primers underneath it, I built a little cardboard box.

I'd spend the extra and get the Lee Loadmaster, it will come with everything you need including dies and powder measure. Get the 9mm model.
