I picked up a semi auto 308 last fall and I've been having some trouble getting it to function reliably. The gun is back at the factory for the second time right now. The problem I'm having is after about 20 or so rounds it turns into a single shot ( FTF, FTE and brass sticks in the chamber ). This brings me to my load development questions. I have been running three different types of ammo, Magtech 150 grn fmj , Remington 150 grn jsp and my hand loads, 147 grn fmj, in LC brass, over 45 grns of Varget. I settled on that charge because I was tring to duplicate the av fps of the factory stuff. The factory ammo is 2,500 fps and my reloads are averaging 2,600 fps ( 16" barrel ). Lymans says, start 42.5 @ 2632 fps and max 47grns @ 2891 fps (24" barrel). The accuracy of my reloads is great. Should I stick with that formula or try something, more / less powerful , in lue of the trouble I'm having with the gun ?

ps I have the same trouble with the factory ammo as with the reloads.

If it was on ly your loads, I'd say you need to full length resize each case.

But... how bout just a plain rough camber, that gets gummed up after 20 rounds? You can polish that by hand.

I am full length sizing them and they measure the same DIA. at the base as factory new rounds. I'm hoping they'll work/polish the chamber at the factory this time around.

New Colt LE901-16s, It's @ the factory now. What do you think of the load I settled on ? I'm tring to duplicate a FED-LC M80 load.

Would be helpful if you would list what sort of action it is. If its an AR style, could be one thing, or if it is a gas piston style, might be something else.

Proper cleaning could be an issue too.

Wait for return of the rifle, test fire with factory ammo, report back. Trying to match factory velocity with handloads is not a safe practice. If pressure is to high, brass may stick in the chamber, delaying ejection. At times the rim will be ripped. http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog/ColtRifles/ColtLE90116S.aspx Nice Colt, seen one at the range the other week. Shot well.
