Need some help with neck sizing

I was reloading some new 204 brass this afternoon, then switched to some once fired brass that I had sized and primed last weekend. To my suprise and dismay, when I placed the bullet on top of the neck it fell right in on every single one. It takes very little effort if any at all and the bullet drops right through the neck. I put my sizing die back in the press, removed the dcapping pin and resized them, but it did no good at all. I'm sure (hoping) there is something simple that I am missing, but I sure can't figure it out. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

What die are you using?

my guess is that you're using a bushing style die, sans bushing

It's a Lee die, it's stamped Lee decapping die #18. Now that I take it apart, it's definitely different than my 223 die, which I have had no problems with. I'm assuming that a decapping die only knocks out the primer and doesn't size? Hadn't thought about it before.

ok so tell me this, why would you want or need a die that does nothing other than knock the primer out? In my defense I bought the rifle and it came with the dies. So far in my reloading career I've reloaded 85 rounds, so I am very much still learning.

yeah, no doubt. use anyone else's sizing die for decapping and see how fast you break/bend pins. i don't care for any other lee products, but their decapper is the shiznazizzle.

I have a Lee universal decapper installed in one of their lower cost challenger presses and just leave it there for decapping.Of course I like to decap before I tumble, this way you are not running dirty brass through your resizing dies.

I don't use a expander ball in my sizing dies (they are a nasty invention). All my decapping is handled by a Universal Decapping Die.

I agree USSR. Since collet dies and bushing dies have been invented, it kind of makes you wonder why anyone would even sell a die with an expander ball.
