Does anybody have a suggestion where I can get a training gun, a semi-automatic pistol, that's a close replica of a real gun in size and weight --- AND where the magazine and slide are realistic? So someone can practice racking the slide, reloads, and other gun handling.

I need to teach folks firearms operation in a location but real guns aren't allowed. It has something to do with city zoning. We can go to the range, but I spend more time in this location.

I saw some Airsoft alternatives but doubt that's the way to go. What about some of those "replicas" they use in theatre? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have gas operated Airsofts that are very realistic and pretty much work like the real thing, right down to fitting in and drawing from my holsters. Pretty dang accurate too.

I have a spring loaded model that might could also fit the bill.

What kind of training are you doing? For what kind of students? Is there a reason your syllabus doesn't allow more time at the range?

In a classroom setting I'd be *very* leery of anything that is capable of firing a projectile or a blank. Both can cause injuries. If I had to choose though, I'd go with an Airsoft before any sort of blank firing theatrical gun though. Just triple check to make sure the airsoft is unloaded.

There's also a solid yellow plastic "training barrel" available for Glock pistols. With the plastic barrel installed there is no way for a live round to be chambered as there is no chamber in the training barrel. A little bit sticks out of the muzzle end so it's obvious that the plastic barrel is installed. You can still practice mag loads and dry-fire with the plastic barrel. That's something to consider as well.

Weaponvideos.org has this video: Here

Bullite Laser Training System.

Looks pretty trick and may be exactly what your looking for. I personally use Airsoft pistols to full scale for practice. But shooting wise, they are nothing like the real thing.

Hey, thanks, I think those non-firing replicas may be the way to go.

I have an office location which doesn't allow real guns. It was a precondition for my city license. No problem going to the range, which has a room in which I can use guns. However, each time I use that range room, I have to pay an hourly fee. There are some curriculums I teach that requires gun handling, and I already have an office location with the gun limitation, and later in the day or later in the week, I can take the students to the range for real guns and real shooting. While I'm at the office location, I'd like to cover some shooting fundamentals and gun handling, without a real gun. So that's my dilemma.

There are some theatrical supply houses in your area (So Cal) that carry real looking/operating guns that will only fire blanks. The barrel is partially plugged to a reduced size so it will not fire anything but smoke.

More info than you wanted to know: My older brother (now deceased) was a bit player in some movies years ago.
