I'm looking for a full size 9mm semiauto and I'm looking for input. I just do target shooting so I'm looking for something fairly in expensive but I don;t want a Taurus as all I've heard about there semiauto's leads me to question there quality. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Mainly I'm looking for something reliable and fairly inexpensive. Thanks all.

my choice is probably obvious but there are many that are reliable and won't cost you too much money. Look at ruger p-series or SR-9 (not sure the cost of the SR-9). CZ's are a good value and reliable. Beretta M9. Etc... It would probably be easier to make suggestions if you gave us a price range.

For 100% pure target shooting, I wouldn't even recommend a 9mm.

But for a target shooting and possible self-defense handgun I recommend the Glock G17.

I found a LNIB CZ 75BD a year or two ago for $300 plus tax. Good deals can be had if you look around a bit.

CZ 75B. I got mine new off gunbroker for $325 shipped. It came with a red dot sight. It's by far my favorite handgun, much more accurate (at least for me) than my XD9.

CZ 75 is good if it fits your hand. (which is very important)

I went looking and fell in love with the Browning Hi Power.

Best thing is to go to a gun store and handle a few guns, then come back after doing research on what you like.

The CZ 75B is all steel slide/frame and will soak up recoil
It's a hammer forged barrel with a 1 in 9.7 inches twist so it'll
spin the heavier 147 gr. bullets better than a slower twist.

THe 75B's slide to frame fit is patterned after the Sig 210
which means the slide fits inside the frame and the rails are full
length the SIg 210 and the CZ 75B have a high reputation for
accuracy. They are also reliable - my CZ 75B I got about 3
months ago has 715 rounds of various FMJ/JHP through it and
no FTF/FTEs issues - 100% reliable.

My shooting buddy has a G19 Glock - I let him shoot my CZ 75B
and he liked the sights a lot better than the Glock - The CZ has
novak like three white dot sights as well as they are
on a full length rib with fine serrations to be non-glare.

I like the 75B with the thumb safety - at the range I can
put the safety on which isn't an option with the D Decocker version.
The range I go to has an overhead trolley for the targets
I can put the gun on safe and bring the target in to check it.
and then run it back out to the range I'm shootting at.
My shooting buddy is now shopping for a CZ full size option
he is going to keep his G19 for carry. Actually the 75B is
closer in size to a 1911 Commander than a full size 1911.
Shooting buddy did the diy trigger job and said it's still mushy on
the G19. The CZ 75B trigger job can improve it way over a
Glock trigger for target work.

IMHO of course.

CZ 75
Glock 17, 19
Beretta 92fs
SA XD-9
SW M&P

Any of these would fit your needs

The first thing to do is to handle as many different handguns as possible. The weapon must fit your hand and point naturally for you. Once you've whittled the field down to a manageable size, start eliminating from there.

My personal Glock 17L is the most accurate handgun I own.
The 17Ls I have sold have been as accurate based on customer feedback. Maybe that's why Glock is now designating it as their "target" model.

I bought the CZ75BD a few years ago. Put the .22 Kadet Kit on it for less money combined than the BHP. Not sure if you could do that today. Great combination. A couple hundred 9mm and a brick of .22 will give you a good day at the range without breaking the bank. The .22 will improve the trigger as well your aim.

Walther P99 in 9mm with the A/S trigger (there are 3 different trigger variations for sale) is my all time fav handgun. Best ergonomics of any gun I've ever held. Also, the front and rear sights can be adjusted and replaced by the user - no need to see a gunsmith to adjust or replace the sights.

I used it on my last CHL renewal test and got a perfect score.

Mine had a hard chromed slide...

Here is my list, and I have owned all 3.

Glock 17
Beretta 92
CZ 75
and yes a Taurus 92/99 they are very good Beretta clones

From what I have not owned.

Ruger KP95,89/94

Target only?

Are you sure you want it for target practice only? If that is the case. I would get a Nice .22. Much less expensive to target shoot. If it is for Target /self/home/etc.-Defense. Then My top Three are The SW-MP full size [4 or 5 inch] The Beretta 92/96 Series or the CZ 75 SP-01 All fine guns. Go with your personal preference. Although the SW-MP and CZ are My Favorites. Good Luck in your hunt for the right pistol! :)

The Best to You and Yours!

Frank

PS. Best Ammo for Defense is the Federal HST 147gr +P or non +P 147gr. Followed by Winchester 147gr Bonded. All LE Ammo available at http://ammunitiontogo.com/

I say this all the time. Go to a gun store and handle all the 9mm pistols you can get your paws on. Your hands and your brain will decide. The most comfortable gun is usually your best personal shooter.

Get either a CZ-75 or a Hi-Power (Browning or FN).

Both are very reliable, both feel unbelievable in your hand, and both are tack drivers if you do your part. If I had gotten either for my first gun, I would still have them.

I just reread your first post. Hi-Powers are costly, CZ-75 are an amazing value for the price. You can get a brand new one for $450 or so.

Or, just buy one of each.... no more debate :D

On a serious note, if you were willing to spend a little more than the price of a Glock (which would be a fine choice for you). Get a SIG PRO 2022 or 2009.. Both are great shooters.
