Folks I need your help. I live in the Communist Republic of Massachusetts. Trying to get bullets of any kind shipped to me takes an act of God. It is perfectly legal, but the psycho AG here has most companies petrified to sell stuff to us. I tried order from Grafs because I need sabots. I figured that with their great shipping, it would be worth adding some lead bullets and XTPs for the muzzloader. No go. So now the shipping is not such a great deal since I can only buy the sabots. Is there anywhere on this planet that could accommodate my need for sabots and bullets?

I really need to get the hell out of here. Between this crap, the constant attack on law abiding gun owners, traffic jams and losing 22 acres a day to development, it just sucks here.

It's a fairly long drive. Plus, the need for crush rib sabots makes the order out of the ordinary. I think I found a source after a lot of attempted online orders at various sites. I need to sign a waiver and send an LTC, but hopefully they will fill the order. This is getting so old. Thank you for the suggestion though. Pete

Were you to cast your own projectiles you'd not be bothered by that. I only mention that as you had asked about the performance of such for hunting. A wide meplat bullet won't create quite the same level of tissue disruption while it is expanding but it does create a wider than bullet diameter wound channel growing with faster speeds. It most certainly will create a bigger wound than a RN or pointy bullet, and if it expands it creates that much more. Unlike a HP it will penetrate much further. And a mold with HP pins can be had or modified.

Oh, and with lead costing from $1-3/lb you can create 27 bullets that weigh 255 grns. It quickly pays for the equipment in no time.

Good point. I have toyed around with molding my own. Time to read up on it a bit more. What are good sources for buying lead?

The local scrap yard is where I bought mine (recycled lead pipeing - pure lead, as pure as can be) for $1/lb. I've moved from that city and can't find any that will sell it where I'm at now so I've looked at Rotometals. It takes a large order to get free shipping (a bit over $100 IIRC), but I'd think shipping fees on that kind of weight would get high quickly. However it's reasonably priced at <$3/lb I believe and can be had in alloys as well (been considering the 2% tin which doesn't really harden it but allows for better mold fill.

I have a 285 grn WFN bullet I've been curious about trying in my 1:48" twist sidelock in a sabot, but being .456" I'd either have to hope a .458 x .50 sabot would hold it well or get what's needed to resize it to .451-2". But the meplat is a bit wide at 83% and I've read that above about 78% it can become unstable beyond about 75 yds and can also decide not to track straight through the animal. But then I've read this isn't necessarily the case with LBT bullets working just fine. I'm uncertain about velocity and it's effects with this.

Also boats often have lead in them from what I've read. If you are along the coast that might be an option. Also roofers come across flashing made of lead. Were you to stop by a shop and offer beer for a bucket of it I'd venture to guess you could walk home with quite a bit as they'd save every bit they came across.

Tire shops used to collect the wheel weights but now many/most are zinc and of no use.
