I have been reloading for quite some time and I am now just getting into reloading sabot type slugs. The cost of these things off the shelf is around 16 bucks for 5 at Cabella's in my area.
I would like to find some load data for a .300 gr .50 cal slug with sabot.I can't really find much data for this animal.
The total weight with the sabot and all the ejecta that I plan to use is around 410 grains.
I see that the slug Hornady makes is a .300 gr SST FTX bullet with 42 grains of an unknown powder.
Does anyone know what type or what a comparable powder substitute would be?
Can anyone share their reloading slug expertise with me.?

The powders I have on hand are: Titegroup, AA 1680, H335, Unique, Clays, lil Gun, and some Herco. I know that some of these are rifle powders, but I mentioned them anyways.

Bullet: .50cal. 300 grn Hornady FXT
Hulls: Rio, Fiocchi, federal, Remington SST, Winchester AA, Herters, and a few others.

I have BPI SST .50 cal>12ga. sabots.

Primers are Winchester 209 and federal 209s.

I also have a Crony. I will be shooting from a Remington 11-87 rifled bbl.
I just want to see if anyone has anything solid for data on these before I start to work up a load.

Thinking about starting out with 22 Grns Of Herco AND another load of 22 Grns OF Clays and go from there. Not real sure how a slower powder like lil' Gun would work in an application such as this...
Any info or help would be greatly appreciated!

Please and Thank You!

I would try contacting Alliant or Hodgdon (or whoever made/sold the powder you are planning on trying to use) and ask them if they have any info.
You might not get any help but think it's worth try.

I have no idea on your load data but there is 437.5 grains in 1oz. So your 300 gn bullet is right around 11/16oz.

Is 410 grns close enough to use for 1 ounce load data?

I have 410 gr total weight with the slug and ejecta, that is 27 grains shy of an ounce. Does anyone know if I can use the same data for slugs with a sabot as I would for a one ounce load of typical shot?
Can I use one ounce load data for a 410 grn projectile?
This is all kinda frustrating because not much is out there as far as real info and data goes for the 12 ga sabot with various slug/bullet weights.
Any ideas or opinions?
