okay out of these .22 cal LRs which is the best and why:

Ruger 10/22 (I know they're good but kinda pricey)
Mossberg 702 (cheap but do they jam, ftf or other problems)
Marlin 60 (we had one of these when I was a kid can't remember any misfires)

tell me your favorite and the pro's and cons...

I'm thinking of getting a scoped 702 just because they are so affordable.

any and all suggestion would be appreciated :)

Well, for starters - a 10/22 is a great choice for many reasons. And they're hardly pricey - I've found them consistently for under $200 at any number of gunshops and outdoor stores. If anything, they're known for being affordable entry-level .22 rifles.

Also, the possibilites for modification and tweaking them are virtually endless. Stop over at rimfirecentral.com and have a look at their 10/22 forum, and you'll start to get an idea about what I mean.

As far as the others you've listed, I'm gonna let others who are more knowledgeable about those particular makes and models to speak up. Good luck with whatever you decide on!

If I had to get one of those three, I'd get the 10/22. Out of the box, they perform well. Then once out of the box, there are 428,261-and-a-half modifications you can come up with (that are legal in most jurisdictions.)

I never really heard of a wild-eyed bunch of rabid pirates getting all lusty with their wrenches on their Marlin 60's. Not to say they aren't any though.

Buy the Marlin Mod 60 for
1) accuracy is better right from the box
2) You wont pay more than the rifles initial investment price for an accurate weapon.
3) No need for after-market pieces to make it the rifle it should have been from the start.
4) Plenty of capacity with intigral tubular magazine
5) Speed-D-Loader available for fast reloads
6) I have the same one I bought with my birthday money when I was 15. They last for a real long time.
7) They are easy to fix and clean

Suffice it to say it is the best rifle for the money.

Between the three i'd go for the 10/22. I picked one up last christmas and have been very impressed by it.

My all-time favorite is still my Ruger 10/22, purchased new in 1978, and still going strong. Out of the box, my rifle was so accurate that I had to put a scope on it just to see how accurate it really was. Besides being able to go from mild to wild with accessories and modifications, the 10/22 is just plain fun to shoot. My rifle has always been partial to CCI MiniMags, though I have gotten some extremely nice results with Wolf Match Target ammo as well.

RUger head

I can't speak for the other rifles, but I can say that the ruger 10/22 is a great choice. I will warn you about the customizing disease, It first starts with somthing cheap like the extended mag release, then the trigger, then the polmer buffer pin, then a stock, then a scope then a new barrell then a new trigger group, then a bipod then ......... before you know it you end up with a $1000 .22

I ahve all 3. They all function flawlessly. I think my Ruger is a little more accurate than the other two.

I vote for the Marlin Model 60
It is cheaper in price ($134.00 at Walmart) and I have had one since I was a kid. The Ruger is nice, The one thing about the Ruger is it seems that after market Mags did not always work as well as I would of liked.
Had a Marlin when I was a kid and still have one today at 50.

My vote goes to the Marlin. I have nothing against the 10/22 and actually own one, but I just prefer the 60.

I had a 10/22 once... hated it, even after a trip back to Ruger... it currently sets at the bottom of the Ohio River... The Marlin, is a great rifle out of the box, will shoot rings around a 10/22 in stock form.

The 702 PLinkster - it's a youth gun and is known to be hit/miss as to getting a good one.

Personally, I currently own a Remington 597 and Glenfield 25 :)

the mossy is a copy of the marlin, in almost every way, I also do not know the availability of parts. On the other hand , the 60 is far and away more accurate than either of those two by far, and you don't need to get a new one. You can walk out to your sidewalk, and there will be one waiting for you there, practically. just go to a gunshop or pawnshop, and get a used mod 60, for no more than 80 bucks. If you can get one, with the tube feed within 1 inch or less of the end of the bbl, that will hold 17 rounds, unlike the 14 which has been in effect since '89. That is very good, but the holy grail is to get one with the long tube, and also the last shot bolt open; you will know this because it will
have a little lever sticking out of the right side of the trigger guard. These , with the long tube, and the bolt open lever, were only made between 85 and 88'. The mod 60 will also fire everything from 22 longs, and Aguila subsonic 60 grainers, all the way up to hyper velocity- and will do so with accuracy and reliability. The ruger, though fun, and I love the flush fit stock and I do have one right now, cannot run with a mod 60 in accuracy, or reliability. Unless you do at least 100 bucks in upgrades. And if you are going to do that, you might as well get a CZ.
here are some pics of my 75 dollar pawn shop mod 60, , with a 75 dollar Barska scope, and what it will do at 100 YARDS!!! i will stack this up against any 10. 22 or mossy , any day.

THESE are all minimum 5 shot groups, and just check out that american
eagle group, that is 4 rounds together, in one ragged hole, with one flyer!!
Look at all these groups carefully, they are ALL AT 1 INCH OR SMALLER at 100 yds,
and these are just some of the pics. In other words, this rifle shoots a whole bunch
of diff type ammo, very well, at 100 yds. I would say at least 20 diff types of ammo, shot
under an inch.

Ruger 10/22

Hey There:
Just my 2 cents worth. While I can not speak for the Marlin, I can say that the Ruger 10/22 is one very accurate rilfe. And yes , with the right ammo they are very accurate right out of the box.
The do need to be cleaned on a rather regular basis, But that is not a problem. I have had several 10/22s. My current .22 is a Ruger 77/22 VBZ. Laminated stock w/a Weaver 4 x 16 scope. This rifle is a hole ragger with CCI green tags. 1/4" at 50 yards and 1" at 100 yards.
Even the 10/22s will shoot the Green tags rather well. these are sub sonic and run slower the most .22 ammo at around 1050 fps.
This same gun will shoot the Win. Power Points at 1" at 100 yards but has a little trouble at 50. The speed is the problem there.
Anyway , I know the 77/22s cost more, but are very accurate rifles. The 10/22s can be made into just about anything you could want. From Mild to Mean. Good luck with your choice.
