It's been years since I've fired my 10/22, so I can't report on that. I've been completely happy with both of my Marlins (795 & 70PSS) and wouldn't hesitate to get a Marlin 60.

Marlin 60 or Ruger 10/22. The Marlin is a better deal, but the Ruger has the benefit of more aftermarket add-ons. I also like the loading systems of both these guns. The Marlin 60's tube magazine is easy and doesn't stick out below the gun. The Ruger 10/22 is also easy to load (the rotary magazine resistance doesn't increase greatly as you get to the last 2-3 of the 10 rounds) and it doesn't stick out below the gun.

All those other 22's with the single stack mags get old real fast. Try loading a Marlin 795's mag or a Savage's a few times. After about 5 reloads of these mags, your thumb is going to be worn out (if not blistered).

As for the Mossberg Plinkster, well, it just feels extremely cheap. Please, don't make the mistake that thousands of others have! Don't die at the age of 80 and leave your children and grandchildren a bunch of cheap/junky guns!!!!

Guys, thank you very much for all the suggestions. It's funny, the only common rifle that I didn't mention is getting the most votes. I was looking at the Marlin 60 too but neglected to list it.

For those who are suggestion a bolt rifle, please read my original post. While I appreciate the suggestions I already have a good bolt action .22. I'm happy with my Savage Mark II and want to add a semi-auto.

The competition is at 25 and 50 yards in 6 stages. There are 2 classes, open sights and scoped. The scope can't be over a 6X and most guys shooting with a scope are using a fixed 4X32 scope since the furthest we shoot is 50 yards.

Again, the reason I'm looking for a semi-auto is because half the stages are timed and the times are a little tight with a bolt action. We shoot more than once so I intend upon shooting both the bolt action and semi-auto. I'm thinking about shooting with and without the scope too.

you should check out the used market i picked up a Marlin mod. 60 for under $100 bucks with a tasco scope. great little settup. even more fun with the stock iron sites. very accurate, mine was in almost new condition shot only about 60 times, also came with a case.

ive shot the 10/22 and didn't really care for it other then the fact you can get extended mags for it, but the marlin is more then enough and very simple to break down.

I don't mind going into the used market and have done so more than once. I think I'll look for a Marlin M60 unless someone leaves a suggestion that's a better idea before I find a good M60.

Thanks again everyone...
