A while back, my Dad bought a muzzleloading barrel for his NEF pardner shotgun. He isn't very happy with it.

According to the literature, the barrel is limited to 100 grains of Pyrodex or 80 grains of H777. He was hoping that it would be able to use 100 to 150 grains of H777.

Do any of you people know if NEF or anyone else makes a barrel that is rated for this amount of powder? Thanks

I'm not sure if there is any difference between the Sidekick and the shotgun receiver & conversion barrel, but according to the Cabela's website, their Sidekick muzzle loader is rated for a 150 grain powder charge. (See the details below the illustration)
There was a recent post about a company that fits a Douglas smokeless conversion barrel to the H&R shotgun receivers, so it's probably not because of the strength of the receiver, although there may be liability concerns.
Many companies are now recommending artifically low maximum powder charges to escape civil liability. In these cases, they can easily be cautiously ignored (at your own risk of course ;) ).
For example, an Ardesa .45 Kentucky rifle's factory recommended maximum load is 45 grains, or for a Lyman Great Plains pistol, 35 grains.
I think the companies know that people routinely drop double powder charges into the barrel by mistake, and then the risk can actually become closer to being more dangerous.
The same holds true for loading 150 grains of loose 777 instead of the 777 equivalent of 150 grains of ffg, which may only be ~120 grains or so of loose 777 fffg.
Does this H&R conversion barrel use the #209 primer?
