Neophyte to the board!

Hi, I'm new to the boards (just registered about 10 minutes ago), just wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself and whatnot...

My name is Benjamin, I'm a 21 year old "kid" from NH, and I just started shooting about 2 years ago. I'm definitely a proponent of the RKBA, and I'm fortunate to live in a state that allows it. I usually shoot over 1,000 rounds a month out of my small, but growing collection of pistols, and every chance I get I take a first time shooter to the range.

So far my collection includes a Zastava Model 70 (mini Tokarev in 32 ACP), FM Hi-Power in 9MM, a Rossi .38 snub, and tomorrow hopefully a ruger old army.
 
Ahh Treebeard! A man who knows of which he speaks! I work in Manchester and have to travel up and down the Everett every day...still not quite as bad as 93 now though.

Mr. Larry sir, My collection used to be a lot more extensive, I've kicked myself for selling my Colt revolvers, my 8 shot Taurus .357, and all my military Mausers and Enfields:(

Welcome! You will LOVE the Ruger Old Army. I had to replace the nipples on mine to Treso nipples. I had a hard time getting caps to seat on the old nipples. Send me a PM if you have troubles with it.

Couple things about the Old Army:

1. It WILL push a lead ball at an honest 1,000 fps, I chronographed mine.

2. You WILL spend a lot of time trying to get the leading out of the barrel, if you insist on loading it that hot. ;)
 
93 sucks. I used to have to go 16 (Spaulding) south to 95 south to 495 south and then to 93. It was the commute to hell. Sometimes I got lucky and even got to to go Chelmsford, MA off of 495! Too bad about your Mausers and Enfields! I am still kicking myself for selling my 30-06! It had a floating barrel and it was dead-on at 100 yards with the peep sights!:banghead:

My wife is originally from Cambridge, Mass. and grew up in Maine. We have a good number of relatives in NH. Wonderful state, and a great place to live.

FM stands for Fabrica Militar, Its a liscence built HP from Argentina. It doesn't recieve any radio stations to my knowledge, though I wouldn't be able to hear it if it did as I'm firing 147 grain Winchesters and it gets pretty noisy...

Playboy Penguin, I agree! Anyone wanna donate to the "Newbie needs more Rugers" fund? :D

Last year I was living in Leominster Mass and I used to drive a tow truck up and down Routes 2, 495, and 3. I bet Treebeard and shermacman can understand why I would go to the range and vent my frustrations on a regular basis...

I will gladly trade you all of my Rugers if you can arrange for me to be 21 again. Heck, if you can just arrange for me to have the knees of a 21 yr old again. Seriously though, you are off to a pretty good start collection wise. :)

Welcome to THR... There's a lot of info and good advice if you listen...

... My dad used to live in Suncook until he passed. I also spent many a summer in the Center Harbor/Moultonborough area. As a matter of fact, my uncle, Jimmy used to be Chief of Police in Moultonborough. I miss those days... Trekking up Red Hill... snake bites... Getting bit by pike from Lake Winnipesaukee...

Unfortunately, the only relative I have left there is mental and no one in the family likes him (Jimmy passed on...) But I might be moving to Maine in the Mexico/Rumford area within the next year...

good! ....here in Reno, no one admits to not knowing how to shoot.

I had an "Argus" once it was a hi power clone from Argentina as well...the safety didn't work and would go bang as soon as you brushed the trigger with your finger, it put the "hair" in hair trigger
 
I say I'm not a fan of politics, but I always find myself battling the "sheeples" in other forums, those that would love to see the RKBA abolished. Perhaps I'll venture over to the politics side of this board soon...

My argument as to the political side of our sport, specifically handguns and concealed carry, is this:

Compare the violent crime rates and respective "gun control" legislation of these 4 places; Vermont, New Hampshire, Washington DC, and Russia as a whole. You may have to do some searching on that, but I wouldn't set foot in DC, and Russia's murder rate is 8 times that of the US as of 1997. Russia has an outright ban on firearms by the way...

Gunsmith, I didn't want to admit that I was a first time shooter when I went to the range for the first time, so I did what every other neophyte does when he goes to an indoor range that rents Class 3/NFA weapons for the first time. "Yeah of course I know how to operate an M16!" Five minutes later, "That'll be $27 for ammo, and $60 for cieling tiles" :eek:

Needless to say, after that I took all the advice I could from the old timers that hang out around the range, the gunshops where I feed my addiction, and wherever I could find them. I stepped back down to a .22, and worked my way up to a 12 gauge. When I bought my first gun, I told myself I would never own a .22, but now I miss mine dearly (sold it for food when I was temporarily homeless). I'll be picking another one up soon though, and I have no doubt that it will be brought out every time i'm facing a backstop:D

I still have much to learn about this sport though, and I would learn all that you would teach!

quite a few on THR "Living Free" in NH....

I work near Rochester and frequently make sight visits to customers in Nashua.....I'll take the Everett Tpk. any day over 93 or 128...but then I usually hit it after the morning rush is past.

I've learned a ton on THR....very nice forum with a HUGE depth of knowledge out there (myself not really contributing much).:eek:
