LAS VEGAS (AP) - A state trooper was charged Monday with nine felony counts of reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter in a crash that killed four people.

Trooper Joshua Corcran was driving 113 mph on Interstate 15 when his cruiser slammed into a car on Feb. 19 as he rushed home for dinner, police said. The posted speed limit was 65 mph.
Corcran's lawyer, Steve Wolfson, said his client would appear in court Tuesday to answer the charges.

"His career is at stake. His livelihood is at stake," Wolfson said. "Of course he is disappointed."

According to a police report, the trooper said he had just responded to an accident.

But neither his emergency lights nor siren were activated, and he did not contact his dispatcher to say he was involved in a high-speed chase or was responding to an emergency call, the report said.

Corcran, a five-year veteran of the Nevada Highway Patrol, was treated for broken bones, cuts and bruises. He was placed on paid medical leave after the accident.

Wolfson has said an investigation should show the crash was a tragic accident.

This guy kills four people and he's disappointed? His mouthpiece says the cop's career is at stake?

I got news for you. This cop's career is over. No way he's back on duty. And I'm sick to death of seeing cops break traffic laws. Yeah, yeah, I know they don't all do it. But enough do that it makes me sick.

My humble 1/50th of $1....

Should be S.O.P. *** for ANY Agency...

If you are going even 1MPH over the posted speed limit, you ******* A-well better have your lights/siren on. And it HAS TO BE AN EMERGENCY SITUATION...

Responding to traffic accident/officer needs assistance/crime in progress. Otherwise, you will be driving a desk for 90 days first time.

Second time, you pound a foot beat for a while.

Third time...send out your resume and job apps. You are no longer emplyed here.

Well Manslaughter is a felony isn't it. No firearm for him. Not that I agree with that law. However my livelihood and job would also be gone. Hard to keep your medical license with a felony charge. Plus I would be so guilt ridden I could never face the public. But hey that is me. Don't worry he will be on SS disability within 5 years for his bad back. I know not a nice thing to say but I would bet money on it.

Bye

He should be done as a police officer. He has shown he does not have the ability, skill, common sense, and self the control over himself to be a police officer. The elective body that has entrusted him with his position should withdraw their approval and simply tell him he does not meet the basic requriments they require of all of their officers. He may not have broken the law, but he can no longer represent them.

"His career is at stake. His livelihood is at stake," Wolfson said.

His career?!?! His job? Shouldnt it be his *freedom* that is at stake? PLEASE tell me that guy is looking at jail time for this.

I am growing concerned of the increasing tendancy towards "administrative punishment" being considered satisfactory for police officers that commit actual crimes. When did this become OK? If you violate a POLICY you get fired, if you commit a CRIME you go to jail. There is some bizzare blurring of the lines going on here. Crimes come with punishments, and last time I checked simply getting canned wasnt one of them.

In most states simply getting clocked at 115 in a 65 can get you thrown into lockup with a court appearance and possible jail time. This guy kills people through his irresponsibility and he is looking at being "let go". Lets not forget the fact that he lied to the responding officers which shows consciousness of guilt, not to mention the whole obstruction of justice angle.

I am tired of cops getting off easy when they break the laws....

That being said, cops have to speed a little, otherwise everytime they are on the freeway, they will be going 75mph and everyone else will be behind them. For traffic to move in most conditions, the cops need to go a little faster and get where they are going.

Seriously, I have been on two lane roads with traffic backed up 3 miles and a cop at the front of the line, doing a few under the posted speed limit and no way to resolve it.

In addition to the crime of vehicular manslaughter, with which you or I would be charged, he is guilty of more, in a free society.

He was abusing his position as a police officer in order to commit the crime. He would not have been caught or charged, had he not hit anyone. It is not unlikely that he did this routinely, in his official car and uniform, and endangered countless others.
