I hated the V-notch on my 10/22. So, I took it in to the gunsmith, and had him put a peep sight on it. I love peep sights. They are so nice to use. I could actually aim with them.

The original front sight was too low for this, so he put on a different one. I might change it out eventually. Wasn't working, but I'll need more range time to work it out.

I was using two 10-rounders, though mostly I was breaking in the Butler Creek Steel Lips 25rnd and the loader.

The magazine worked without a hitch, I guess the last three mags I put through it broke it in well enough. The loader was by Butler Creek, and while they say not to, it works well with the 10-rounders. You just have to wiggle them in a bit. I'd imagine it works well with other mags, too. Much nicer than thumbing them in by hand, and I could keep my gloves on.

It got chilly before I could really get started on the 10/22, and the sun was going down, so I don't have groups yet. It should be rather nice though.

Hey that's neat.

I've been looking for a rear peep, but not wanting to spend the money on a rear peep just so I can see if mounting it was feasible, I haven't done it yet.

Can you tell us what model the rear and front sights are?
I can drill and tap the reciever for the rear peep, I just need to know which one is the correct width for the 10/22 reciever.

BTW, is that rear sight windage and elevation adjustable with clicks?

It uses clicks, yes. I can't recall the brand or anything. The smith and I got it out of a catalog. It goes over the left side, and bolts on there. The screws that came with the sight were too short, only engaged the reciever a couple of threads. He set it a bit low, but that's okay, it's a bit high, he said, but with putting it just below the bullseye being the standard, it works fine. Windage can be adjusted though, there's enough clearance for that.

I'd say stop by the gunsmith, and see what he's got. He had the cheaper one that slides to adjust, and we used that to make sure it fits. Ideally, your guy will have some laying around for you to look at, and a catalog to look in, too.

I agree looks like williams peep to me too..

Peep sights are great, I have a williams peep on my Marlin 1894c. You'll
be amazed be how good you can shoot with one. You can also buy smaller
aperatures for more precision. For me with my chosen .357 load I
could do no better than 6-7 inches at 100yds with the factory irons. When
I got the williams, I got Two Aperatures, one was there twilight with a .150
hole and a brass ring around the outside which draws the eye to center
more easliy in low light, and the other was a .025 (I think). The twilight
I use for hunting, and I get 3-4 inch groups at 100yds, the smaller one
I get 2" groups with at 100yds. Thats what I mean by getting some
surprisingly good accurcy from peeps. I Like scopes on rifles and I didn't think
really good accuracy was possible with out one until I tried it. Btw you can't
argue that your rifle looks great with those sights on it. :D :D :D

For a lower-buck alternative to a FP, which requires that mounting holes be drilled and tapped and (in some cases) a relief cut in the stock, Williams sells a set with their "Guide" receiver sight and either a bead or "Firesight" front of the correct height for under $40.

The rear installs using the existing holes for the scope mount. DIY time for the whole business shouldn't exceed 0.5 hr.

Doesn't have the 'micrometer/click' adjustments of the FP, but has calibrated index markings for W and El. Fast and easy to 'zero'. Practically speaking, how often do you 'need' to rezero, once you're set-up for 25-35 yds?

I have this set-up on my #2 10/22, and it works great. Haven't had to touch it since it was first sighted-in with its prefered ammo.
