i wouldn't consider a springfield loaded or R.O. a poor choice. the only springfield armory 1911's that advertise throated & polished barrels are the custom professionals in the 2 grand and up club. springfield will tune your 1911, 1911-A1 Defense Package:
GI models: $350.00
Other Springfield models: . $260.00
1. Deburr pistol internally
2. Tune extractor & ejector
3. Recut barrel throat & polish feed ramp
4. Install custom match bushing
5. Check headspace
6. Install new recoil spring & firing pin spring
7. Tuned 4.5 lb. trigger
8. GI Models: Lower & flare ejection port; install extended ejector
9. Refinish as needed (Additional charge for some finishes)
10. Reliability tuning
11. Inspect & test fire for function

i could be wrong but i don't think anybody offers a 1911 sub 1 grand with tool steel igniton componets. nowlin, c&s, any many others offer a drop in trigger-job kit. i just read two reviews on brownells one in sub $400 armscor, "trigger pull very crisp....well worth the money" another in a kimber series 1 custom classic, "trigger before kit was mediocre & thats being kind...after kit crisp no creep trigger...i'm a very happy camper"

NOLAEMT will get a good 1911 from anybody he mentioned he's looking at, if this is going to be a duty carry, some 1911 need to have the barrel throated & polished to run hollow points reliably. my other recommendation is maybe trigger. happy shooting:)

SA,

I didn't say they (the Springfields) would be a poor choice, I said if they don't feed correctly the ammo you noted from the factory they (meaning any 1911 that won't) were chosen poorly.

If you think a few reviews on "drop in" ignition sets mean they all drop in correctly then I've got some real estate deals for you in Siberia. Your original post mentioned a steel trigger, something no one would use for the purpose of lightening trigger pull before you swapped that for the statement that no one you know of makes a sub $1000 1911 with tool steel internals. The DW Heritage comes close to your description at around $1125. Near TRP level fit, SS, GI guide rod as opposed to 2-piece/bull barrel, front night sight, flat top, no MIM parts.

I'm still not sure where you heard "mostly 1911s" need reliability work to run modern ammo but it ain't so. At the $750-$1500 price range they ought to spit it out like Redman. I have it on good authority that polishing and throating correctly will never harm the pistol assuming proper original geometry. To be forced to pay twice for what it should have done indicates a quality control issue. Either way if done wrong this "service" will cost you $150 trip to EGW for an insert at best, at worst you'll have a ruined barrel and frame that isn't worth salvaging.

i should have said SOME instead of mostly. i should have said "drop in trigger kit". i forgot the word kit.

actually you did say if it doesn't come that way from the factory it was a poor choice.

you said "you'll have spent a $1000 and still have a $500 gun,...better to have spent the money up front, thats why i "swapped" that statement...and i mentioned the two reviews as a point you can improve your trigger.

anyway everybodies milage is different. some r 100% out of box some need a little help. some drop ins "drop in", some don't. i love my C&S trigger, it is fantastic, breaks like glass. happy shooting:)
