I just bought a Ruger American Ranch 5.56 for $330 this week. I put a cheap Center Point scope on it that I had laying around, and off to the range I went. It was cold and windy but, I just couldn't wait. ;) Put 200 rds of my reloads (20gr IMR 4198, LC brass, 55gr Hornady soft points with cantilure, and Winchester SRP) through it and average groups was 1 moa. The setup is more accurate than I am.

Cant wait for a warmer and calmer day.

It's pretty amazing that you can spend $330 on a rifle, a few hundred on a scope and shoot 1MOA just like that.

I did the same thing with a Howa 223. I'm using AR Comp instead of IMR 4198. I can't consistently shoot to the level of the rifle either. Pretty frustrating. :D

Seen a guy do the same thing with a Savage hunter. $500 goes a long way these days.

Naw that scope was a freebe from a trade a while back. Thing probly didn't cost $50 new.

Ditto. I like my 527, too. I like the way it feels and shoots. I intentionally got the 1:12 twist because I want to shoot 55 grain and lighter bullets, but they offer it in a 1:9 now. I shoot a .243 or .308 if I need heavier bullets.

And this thread needs a photo of a 527.... :)

Is that a factory 527 Varmint in 223? Because your barrel looks a heck of a lot heavier than mine did.

So if somebody had given you a couple of boxes of 50 BMG would you be buying a Barrett? :)

Haha! I thought my excuses for buying a gun that I don't really need were pretty weak until I saw that one. :D I guess it depends upon how big the boxes were, though.... I bought my CZ 550 FS in .308 because a guy gave me an ammo box full of .308. Turned out to have 664 rounds in it. :)

There is no reason one has to have a good reason to buy a new gun. Any reason is a good one, especially if you get plenty of use out of it.
