I received an e mail from Wolf Ammo stating that they will be bringing out a new line of ammo in 30 M1 carbine. Arrival in about one month from email dated 2/14/05. The email is just about two weeks old so the ammo should be available by about mid March.
I suspect but do not know, that it will be polymer coated steel cased, FMJ. We have certainly needed a good source of inexpensive ammo for practice in this handy caliber.
I spoke to Mike Shovel of CorBon at the SHOT Show and he confirms that they are working on a 30 carbine load with power ball or DPX. I have been hearing about CorBon's efforts in this caliber for at least a year.

I've been thinking of getting a M1 Carbine, even a copy for awhile. Nice to know I can get cheap ammo.

I know purists hate them, but I just got a copy, the Auto Ordnance model. Hey, it shoots reaaaaaal good. Only shooting indoors at 25 yards, but hey...

Wolf ammo sounds good. Thanks.

I haven't seen the Wolf ammo yet but plan on trying it.

I believe there may be a problem caused by the steel cases.

The Carbine extractor is a weak point in the rifle. I've broken more extractors than I can count, one just a couple months ago.

As purely a guess I would think the steel case will be much harder on the extractor than the brass case.

Extractors only cost about $8 (at the gun shows) so the savings in cheaper ammo will more than pay for a few extractors.

Everyone that owns a Carbine should have a couple spare extractors, spring and plunger and know how to replace them.
It could save a day of shooting at the range.

At the Ammunitionstore.com the S&B .30 Carbine is not much more than the Wolf. I would go with S&B before the Wolf.

Heck for the difference in price I wouldn't even consider the Wolf ammo.

The S&B brass is reloadable and even if you don't reload you can sell the brass. Reloadable Carbine brass isn't very plentiful and is a little high.
