New .38 Super Colt Special Combat Government

Posted this on the 1911 Forum but thought I'd share my good news here also

Well I just picked up my .38 super Special Combat Government Competition. I've waited for this gun for a year or more (ever since I heard the "rumor" that Colt was going to produce them).

Bad thing is that I can't go to the range for a week since I'm going out of town tomorrow morning!!! Bummer!!!

I'll post a range report next weekend hopefully. Upon visual inspection, the fit and finish is excellent. No tooling marks, gorgeous blued slide, and nice tight lockup. This is certainly no rattle trap!!!! I am very impressed. The only 1911s I own are SCGCs because I am particularly fond of them for some reason. This one is no exception.

Came in outer cardboard box, blue custom shop box with lock, manual, and 2 magazines that have rubber bumper pads....also has the gray/black grips which I like better than the walnut ones that come on the .45s. Also has a test target that was shot at 15 yards....wow....got one that grouped well, at least for the test...hope I can do as good!!!!


Here's a couple of quick pictures....one with a flash and one without....lighting is poor on both of them. I swear I'm going to make me a light box next month so I can take good photos of my guns....

Absolutely gorgeous. Without a doubt SCG's are my favorite looking 1911's. Its just too bad I cant have one in California, if they offered it I'd definitely owned one.

Colt SCGC

I got mine from Sporting Arms. They got it from Davidsons. I had called the Colt custom shop and they told me they shipped 5 of them to Davidsons. Sporting Arms called and Davidsons didn't know anything about the guns. Then 2 days later I saw the model number of the Davidson website with "0" inventory. I had Sporting Arms call them again and lo and behold, they were able to get 2 of them (I bought them both, consecutive serial numbers).

So, I would think that Sporting Arms could get some more although they are allocated guns. Wilson & Associates also gave me a price quote although they did not yet have any.

Here's the only three prices I've seen but they are not necessarily "advertised" prices:

Collectors Firearms (Houston): $1700 YIKES
Sporting Arms: mine were $1299 out the door but that may have been a preferred price since I buy most of my guns from them and use them to package and ship the ones I sell.
Wilson & Associates: $1250 shipped to my FFL (again, I am a repeat customer of theirs)

Still haven't been able to go shoot mine....was hoping to go today but it's looking like maybe Saturday or Sunday

Just got back from the range with my new Colt. It functioned 100% .....not a surprise to me. Just shot crappy old range ammo but it had no problems what-so-ever. Brands used were: Aguila, PMC, and UMC (I think that's what it was...I bought it at the range, in a yellow box).

Accuracy is dead on....the test target is indeed indicative of what this gun will do!!!! Trigger was nice and crisp, no adjustments needed on the sights.

I just love this 38 super, especially since it's in my favorite platform, the Colt SCGC. I can't wait to get my case of ammo shipped to me and get back out to the range!!!!

The mags for this gun have orange polymer/plastic followers. All mags functioned fine and locked the slide back after the last round was fired. I was thinking about buying some Wilson mags like I used to have but these Colt mags work great.
