While in a local shop yesterday I happened to notice a neat new little .380acp pocket gun. I'm always on the lookout for something small that I can make pocket holsters for, so when i saw this gun I had to check it out.

It's a Sig P238 .380ACP copy/clone of a Colt Mustang. Single action only with a 6+1 round capacity. Way back when I first got into gun I bought a Colt Mustang Pocket-lite for CCW, but ended up trading or sell it for the flavor of the month.

Upon holding this gun I knew that I just had to buy it, it fit my hand great pointed very nicely and had a great trigger. I have a LCP but have never really carried it for some reason, but this gun will very likely join the CCW rotation.

Rumor has it that these guns are very reliable and pretty dang accurate, we'll just have to see.

Here are some pictures of my P238. :D

Hopefully a range report will be coming this weekend, that's if I can round up some ammo. :uhoh:

I like the looks of the gun, but the grips look very cheap and almost put on as an afterthought. Hopefully some nice checkered aftermarket grips will become available.

Any problems with the safety while shooting? I always tend to activate the safety on small guns that have them while shooting.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but the safety is very positive and I doubt i'll have a problem with it.

The grips are not really that bad in person, IMHO. Sure it would look good with some nice aluma grips but I don't think it would function any better. Any Colt Mustang grips will fit this gun, so there should be some options out there already.

That looks awesome!

I'd be leery about pocket carrying though, all sorts of lint and debris will get in the way of that hammer. My P3AT collects a bunch, but it's all behind the double-action hammer instead of up front. Still, I bet the weapon's very accurate for a pocket pistol thanks to the lighter and shorter trigger pull! I'd be tempted to get a small IWB rig if I had one.

Looks like a real sweet gun. I've long been considering something new in .380 and pocket sized. I hate the long DAO triggers on most of whats out in the market , but this looks like a great alternative.

After seeing your post though I went and checked around some on the prices for these little guys... The price seems a tad high to start , but then the mags .. OH MY ! Looks like mags are going for $50+ a pop. $750 or so for the gun and two mags .. unfortunately that's just WAY out of my price range for a pocket .380.

I can dream though I suppose *sigh* ..

Are the numbers accurate?!?:eek::what::eek:

Are the numbers accurate?!?

Maybe not high enough actually, at least juding by gunbroker standards.

The gun on Gunbroker in various auctions seems to go for about $600 , after shipping and transfer fees you're probably looking at something between $660 -$680 depending on what you get transfers for.

And all of the mag listings have them going for $50 + shipping

So it could really be more like $800 total for the gun and two mags, I made the $750 estimate to reflect gunbroker maybe being a little high.

Anyway , I'd love to know how it shoots , please give us an update if you get it out to the range :)

At least one online vendor (generally well regarded by THR members) is offering them for $450-$500, depending on color and night sight configuration. The Gunbroker and "first in town" prices are just silly.

Cool, I didn't know these were out already. I cant wait to see one in person. Looking forward to your range report.

I paid $550 plus sales tax for this one and probably could have saved $50 if I would not have just wanted it now.

I'm hoping to get out this weekend, i've just got to dig through my ammo stash to see how much .380acp I have.

Cool

GunNut -

Congrats on the new Sig. Looks sharp. Hope it soots as good as it looks. If so, you've got a real winner. Probably has a nice trigger, being based on the 1911.

GunNut,
Sweet.
Any chance of some photos as you field strip it showing internals, describing takedown, etc? Plus the obligatory Range Report o' course. :D

Nice looking pistol. $550 is not bad at all for Sig quality. Let us know how it shoots. Pics are mandatory of course. :)

Wonder if they plan to make a 9MM in that size....

Had one in my hands yesterday. What a neat little pocket pistol. The shop was asking $550 but they tend to ask a little more than they are willing to take. The owner of the shop has one and absolutely loves it.
Looking forward to your report

And oh yeah congrats.

From what I have seen on SIG forum, Mustang mags fit. Whenever I pocket carry my Mustang Pocketlight it is with the safety on and hammer down. That is why I favor the P380 for pocket carry.

Ijust

don't think that could be a pocket gun like a P380 kahr or lcp Ruger. cocked and locked is not good for pocket carry. Nice gun but not for me..

I've been looking at this one since they announced it at the shot show. Not sure if I'd want to carry 1911 in my pocket, but would not mind adding it to my pocket gun collection. Congrats on your purchase!
