Ruger...If we ain't careful, we're gonna start to agree on a daily basis. Think of the implications. The Mississippi will run backward, and popcorn sales will fall off and put people outta work.

We gotta get with the program. This ain't natural.

That would be a good one, Bush. Wish Ruger would catalog it.

I'd also like to see a New Vaquero in .41 magnum, but I won't hold my breath. As it stands, it's a custom conversion only, and some of the SA revolver wizards are hesitant to do it unless they go with a 5-shooter. Ham Bowen seems to feel that a 6-shooter is fine.

I'd apply the same caveats as with K-frame 357s, though, and only load up hot if there was a real need in the plan. For general purpose and plate bustin' at the range...8 grains of Unique for a thousand fps with a 210 grain bullet is as good as it gets.

Yup I can see a lot of 8gr of Unique under a 215gr SWC being used in the future read my range report. I think however that I'm going to have to buy some different bullets though. Right now I have some from Leadhead and they really leaded up my S&W M58 with the above load. I'm thinking the bullets are just to darn hard.

Either way I think the old Police load has more than enough stuff to get the job done on hogs.

.41 Mag, I share the same opinion as you that the .41 Mag is probably the most balanced big bore ou there. It is just a shame that folks pass it up for one of the other two. I vaguely remeber seeing that listed in the old worn Shooters Bibles that I used to thumb through as a kid. I notice that your a big fan of W296/H110 how has 2400 worked for you? I have a little bit of H110 left but am trying to use it up so I don't have to keep Magnum primers on hand.

I don't plan on loading bullets on the heavy end of the spectrum for the .41 mag. So I hope that 2400 will reward me with good accuracy and power for full power loads with 210gr bullets. I also made up the old Police loading with a 215gr SWC and 8.0gr of Unique. That load proved to be very accurate out of my fathers' M58 that I pictured above. I wish now that I saved the target that I shot with it.______

336A,

Probably 98% of my handloads use standard Winchester primers. They have always been fine with any powder so I just stuck with them. I used to load 2400 almost exclusively, but got a good deal on a keg of 296 and more or less switched over to it. That said I have a keg of older 2400 from 93 that I just opened up about two weeks ago.

I haven't shot many cast from my revolvers but am trying to get into it now. The ones I HAVE shot them through have had mixed results ranging from "OMG I'll never do that again", to "wow those shoot pretty decent". The ones I have shot the most of and that shot well, were the Oregon Trail SWC, and I have loaded them up to the top end with 2400, 296, and Unique, just to see if any one was better than the others. I found that they all shot better at the mid loads than the upper end, but none leaded at any load. I just started working on some cast loads of my own this year, but am concentrating on my 454 first. The mold I picked up for the 41 is simply a Lee 6 cavity TL which I have cast, but have yet to put down range. I am planning to use up some of the 2400 and Unique for that development.

In my revolver with the 2400 it really started to shoot more accurate with the 200gr Rem on the top end. This was OK but I get better accuracy with the 296 with the above listed 20.5gr load. From my Redhawk it's moving along at about 1300fps give or take, and does all I need it too. Like I mentioned since moving to the 296, I just settled on that load and have shot it for the last 15 years or so. I used to shoot several hundred rounds a week easily, but then life in general got in the way so I have backed of now to how many ever rounds I can manage when I get the chance. The great thing is no great muzzle flash or annoying recoil, just a nice pop followed by smooth rise of the muzzle.
