I bought a couple new complete tool head assemblies. I loaded a bunch of 9mm with no issues and switched out the heads to run some 45 ACP. Using Longshot since I came across some. Dialed in the powder settings pretty quick and I have a little LED light I put on the machine that shines into the casing before I put the bullet in place. I try very hard to not get distracted and look at the powder in every one. Well, after about the 15th shell there was no powder!!! I ran a bunch more and maybe 1/2 there is no powder drop?? What the heck? Anyone had this happen and know of a fix? This sucker is brand new direct from Dillon.

If the powder measure works properly on 9mm, there might be an adjustment issue on the 45. Is the 45 expander set so that it fully cycles the measure? I have two 550's with different measures and both are 100% on powder delivery. The only problem I have ever had with Dillon powder delivery was using stick rifle powder on small calibers, the powder would bridge in the funnel. You would see this as no powder in one case and double in the next.

Its actually two completely different dispensers. Since my post, I emptied the powder after taking it off completely and worked the action back and forth a few times. I put it back on only got two drops and then nothing which tell me that what did drop was likely what was stored inside and now nothing is flowing at all. Guess a call to Dillon tomorrow.

ok, figured it out. My confidence in Dillons QC was the problem. It didnt dawn on me that Dillon would ship something not perfect. They did. There is a bolt that runs through the powder mechanism with a locking nut on the other side. It was too tight and wouldnt allow a full return of the powder bar. All fixed and cranked out a couple hundred with normal Dillon precision. Ticks me off though that I lost a couple hours off my afternoon momentum.

Great that you got it running-With a little help from Dillon's Customer Service..

Kind of reminds me of what my Dad told me long ago--"Son, you GOT to be smarter than the TOOL"..HA HA..Bill.

Glad you got it figured out. I have one on the way this week ( 550 b) hopefully. Reading all I can on them.

If you have the safety rod adjusted correctly your answer is a fairy tale. Either your not returning the ram all the way or you just skipped a couple. Easy to do when you first start using the Dillon.

You will Love your new 550..
