What firearms companies currently plan to offer new rifles for this recently reintroduced cartridge? Will Remington reoffer rifles in this caliber once again? Is Savage also interested in this round? These are some of the questions I have about the 5mm cartridge. I trust some of our members can fill us in on proposed firearms for this round. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, the crystal ball is still kind of cloudy.
There is a lot of speculation over at Rimfire Shooting and Rimfire Central, but nobody has any hard data that I have seen.

the problem is, they may have to make two diff rounds, one for the old rifles, firing at about 2200 fps , and ones for the new, which may do 2500 fps.
Man can you imagine that, like a mini 22 hornet, I would so be getting a new rifle...

I wonder how many of the original 5mm rifles are still available. Remember, those rifles were discontinued in the early 1970s and 5mm rimfire ammo was dropped from production around 1984 if my sources are correct. That has been nearly a quarter century. I suppose the first new rifles will be bolt-actions, but I might be mistaken. Time will tell. Please include any additional information that our readers may consider relevant about this gun and cartridge.

The old Remington 591 and 592 rifles are coming out of closets all over the place as new 5mm gets available. The original production did not last long enough to wear them out and there was not much to be done with one after the ammo dried up. There were a couple of centerfire conversions, and I read one guy to bemoan that he could not find his rimfire bolthead to convert back, though.

Jim, I wonder how many people kept their old 5mm rifles when the ammo was discontinued. You are correct that some of those rifles were converted to centerfires, although I have not read or heard much about the results of those conversions. Time will tell. Thanks for your input.

I know, I know, but just imagine all this coming from a Rimfire... that is
simply amazing, really, a true hunting round out to 200 yds, from a freakin
rimfire!!!!

I have heard rumblings about Savage, CZ, Cooper (which would really be awesome!), and I have my Taurus 5mm mag pistol on order!

My boy and I took out the Remington 591M a few days ago and it was great to be shooting it again. That Centurion ammo rocks! Shot some unbelievable groups sighting it in after all of these years (it was still right on). Boy..., the carnage on the whistle pigs had to be seen to be believed! My boy has a .22-250 he was using and the 5 tore 'em apart almost the same. I know... hard to believe.

Glad to see that there is some interest in it as newer powder and bullet technologies can only make it better if there is a large enough consumer interest.

savage, and cz were supposed to make them, I saw 1 or two Taurus long bbl revolvers, I think rossi as well. YOu can get t/c to make you a bbl, anytime, if you have the small frame pistol. now with reloader 17 powder, centurion ammo is getting 2500 fps or more, with a 32 and 35 grain round, but with a 20 cal bullet; that is as good or better b.c. , than a 22 hornet. and of course there is allways and old remmy , but you will have to pay a pretty good price for these, and I am not sure how well they will handle the hotter loaded ammo; may shoot them great, may spray them out.

If savage or cz does make one, I will proly dump all other rifles for varmint smashing, and go purely to this, as it will take a clean kill out to 200 yds, on all coyote or smaller game, easy.
