Been wanting a Winchester 9410 ever since I first saw an ad. Kinda the nostalgia thing! This past Saturday I saw one on the shelf of our local gun store.
First one that I have seen in person. Yes, it followed me home!
It is different than all the ones I have seen in the ads. It has a 4" shorter barrel with a hi-viz sight and 3/4 length mag. The mag holds 5 instead of 9 rounds. It is called the "Packer".
Took it out for a quick tryout on Sunday, after spending part of Saturday cleaning all the factory oil, and my drool, off it.
My GF was kind enough to hand throw some clay birds for me. What a blast to powder these with the little .410!
The action was not nearly as smooth as I thought it shoud be, and some of the shells would not feed into the chamber without hanging up on the outside of the chamber.
Later I spent some time cycling the action, after using CLP to lube it, and it seems to be getting smoother. Last night I bought some different shells and some slugs to try in it later.
It was not perfect, but what a blast it is to handle and look at!
To my surprise the GF suggested we hang it up somewhere in the house! That is definately a first!
The build quality seems to be very good, however the wood-to-metal fit could be a little better. I like it!
Maybe now I can find the full length model to go with it!
Then a m94 .30-30, or a .......wait, this could get expensive!

Nice find :)
I've been eyeballin them since they first came out too. They just look like they would be fun.
An even though folks here don't like the .410, I think with the choices of ammo it would make a great pest control gun for most of the stuff around the farm. Has enough power with less range and chance of ricochet than a .22, without blowing a coon through the roof like a 12 gauge ;)

I've been semi-seriously considering one for a couple months now. I've always wanted a Model 94, but just don't have much use for a rifle.

I do, however, shoot shotguns every chance I get. Could be kind of interesting to use it on the skeet range or for some 5-stand.

My immediate thought was that it could well be the ultimate in a rabbit-hunting gun.

I saw some full length metal 410 shells at the last gun show. I asked about them, the Russian outfit that makes the AK 410 gun started making them for their gun. Seems plastic shells could/were causing feeding problems. You may want to give them a try in your 9410 if you can find them.

I handled one a while ago, it seemed well built.

I've yet to think of a good reason for having one of these, except for the fun factor. Enjoy!

If the levering works the way it ought to, those 2 and 3 pellet buck loads should make a decent HD tool out of this for folks that are not very kick tolerant.

As for pest control, I'll stick wth a 22.

Note, I understand Marlin has brought out a similar lever 410 at the SHOT show.Obviously, lots of people like these.

I just wanted to update everyone. I got my 9410 out last night to just "fondle" it a bit. I pushed the crossbolt safety, er a hammer block, to the "off" position. When I pushed it in it slid right on out the left side! The spring and whatever else that holds this in place is still somewhere in the basement!
I know that I do not need this part, but boy this sure sucks on a new gun! Gotta write Winchester. Yuck!

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Then I just realized that if a fella had a 9410 and a 94...he could become pretty deadly at shooting moving targets with the 94 from practicing with the 9410. In today's overcrowed world, it is pretty much impossible to do aerial rifle work. So the 9410 might fill a niche as a training arm for 94 owners who wish to improve their moving target skills.

Even CAS shooters could benefit from practicing on clays with the 9410.
