I picked up a Smith & Wesson 9mm Shield this weekend and was very impressed with it at my first range session. The sights are easy to see(I am 60) and it is accurate and has very soft recoil for a small pistol. I plan on using it for a carry gun. It is going to be my first IWB gun. S&W did a great job with this gun.

Glad to hear about your positive experience. This gun is on my "want" list. Did you get one with or without the manual safety? If with, how do you find the ease of manipulation?

@OP--- I have TWO of them, one with iron sights and one with red laser added. Both easy shooting, accurate as any factory pistol I've shot, and always reliable. You've made a great choice.

And, by the way, easy to disassemble and clean.

Mine does not have the manual safety. I have a full size M&P 9mm without the manual safety and feel comfortable without the safety.

Congrats, Edcnh! My wife and I rented one a couple weeks ago and both liked it. She thinks she'll probably pick one up to compliment her M&P9c (no safety). My oldest stepson recently bought the .40S&W version (with safety), and mentioned last night that it kicks a bit more than he thought it would.

I handled a bunch of small 9s at my LGS a few weeks ago, and found the Shield to be the most comfortable in my hand. After shooting it, I found it to be a nice little gun.

Congrats. I'm 64 and the Shield is my number one carry gun. Mine was one of the first to hit the shelves and does have the safety. I find the safety to be small and I must turn the gun slightly to reach it. In practice I can't always get it off smoothly. Problem solved by just leaving it off. No, I have never had a problem with it going on safe by itself. Just use a good holster.

I carry my shield in an Alien Gear Tuck 3.0 holster. You might want to check them out for a IWB holster. Their prices are cheaper than many others of similar build, but quality is good. It is a 2 clip holster, so is takes a little longer to set up than a 1 clip, but once you have it set, it is very comfortable.

Just got the Alien Gear 3.0 holster I ordered in the mail today. Glad to hear it good was a good choice.

Thinking about picking up one of these myself. It seems that most folks who own the Shield absolutely love it.

I've heard lots good about these guns and a lady friend absolutely loves hers. Myself, though I like the size and co crept, I'll not own one as it's not rated for +p ammo, the majority of what I stock.

We have to disagree

I rented a S&W Shield in 9m.m. and found that the recoil was too harsh for me. It was not as bad a the plastic framed KARH CW9 that I shot, but it was more than I wanted to repeat.

If the recoil is not a problem for you, I hope you enjoy your new gun.

Jim

From what I understand the Shield is rated for +p ammo. They just state that excessive use can lead to wear. I don't know many folks that practice excessively with +p stuff.
