Well, thought I'd share the newest addition to the stable, a Springfield Armory Loaded Lightweight Champion.
I must say, I am pretty darn impressed with the fit and finish of this gun. Nice, tight slide, frame and barrel fit, the Novak Night Sights are nice and clear (and brighter than the sights on my HK USP). The trigger is, well, as a 1911 should be, freakin sweet. This one feels like it's about 5-5.5 pounds, so on the lighter side of the Springfield's and the reset, again, as a 1911 should be, absolutely godly!. I only had time to pull over onto the side of the road, run into the woods and empty 22 rounds into a tree stump (with a giant dirt backstop for safety) but no jams or anything like that...and that was before cleaning the grease out of it. The 22 rounds were Winchester Ranger Talons in the 230grain +p flavor; my preferred carry load in .45.
When I got her home, I stripped her and gave her a bath, then got to adding what I felt were necessities.
Added the Falcon Ergo Grip XT's (plastic grips molded to a grip-tape like texture) which are slimmer than the standard rubber grips that come stock on the gun and give a bit more grip to the gun. Not the nicest grips, but for a carry gun, they'll do just fine.
Add a complete flat Mainspring Housing (with new plunger, spring etc...) and Magwell combination from Ed Brown with 30lpi checkering (damn, 30lpi is aggressive, isn't it hehe?).
The holster is a G-Code paddle unit with a 15-degree cant to it. With my build, this set-up is concealable and fast, yeah, Kydex = FAST on the draw, which is what I like about it. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the nice leather, but I like the speed of Kydex too.
The mag carrier is a G-Code paddle unit which is about as nice as any other Kydex mag carrier...keeps the mags secure, I like the paddle attachment for both the mags and the holster, easy on, easy off, nothing thick stuffed down into my pants that I wasn't born with.
Anyway, I am happy. Had a bit of delay and an issue with the original dealer I tried to get one of these from, but in the end I saved $159 bucks (got this one for $644.00 + shipping and transfer fee instead of $789.00 + shipping + tax and NICS fee). Now I need to get to the range and really put her through a workout.
Good times, noodle salad.
