I just bought my first AK, a romanian preban wasr 10. I have alot of experience with firearms, but this is my first AK, and I am very ignorant of their intricasies. Which replacement trigger parts do I need to fix the trigger slap problem. I have found a few on midway, do I need the double hook or single hook trigger group. Are there any other stock parts I should replace right away to avoid potential problems. Thanks in advance for all of the help AK afficianados.

Romanian SARs and WASRs use a single hook trigger. All you need is the hammer, trigger and sear. They should come as a kit.

Have you tried firing it? It may not even have trigger slap.

As far as what to replace, you shouldn't need to replace anything. Try shooting it a while and see if it has any deficiencies that you think need attention.

I've tried a lot of crap on my SAR1 and except for threading the barrel for a flash suppressor, adding a Romanian side folding stock and an FSE trigger(to cure trigger slap), I've went back to stock on everything else. Nothing improved the original design. In fact, I've even considered going back to the original wooden buttstock, but I like how compact it is when folded.

Edit: Come to think of it, I did make one free improvement that made a big difference. I widened the gap slightly on the rear sight with my dremel (about two sight posts wide when sighting from the shoulder), rounded off the hard edge on the top, Gunkoted the entire rear sight flat black to reduce glare and painted the front sight post flat bright red to make it easy to see. IMO, that made a huge difference in shootability.

If you're going to start replacing triggers, a lot of people are using Tapco's G2 trigger. I've also heard good things about Red Star Arms triggers.

Regarding replacing other stuff....I'd shoot the gun a bit first and see if you need anything else on the gun. Personally, I think AK sights suck so I bought a rear peep sight form mine from Krebs Custom and put a white front sight on from Tapco. Your needs may vary, shoot it, then decide what you don't like.

About the trigger slap. Both me and my buddy have fired my WASR. I DEFINATLY notice my finger hurting after 5-10 rounds. My buddy however says there is no problem and blasts away for hours if the ammo lasts that long. Is it just me?

I found trigger technique made a difference with mine. If I fired and held the trigger back a sec, then released and fired again, it wasn't so bad. If I was trying to rapid fire and releasing the trigger quickly, it slapped terribly.

HGUNHNTR have you shot your AK yet? Not all Romanian AKs have the trigger slap problem. The only ones that do are the ones that have the crappy Century Arms trigger group. If yours says Tapco USA on the left side of your rifle then you are good to go. If its a WASR10 its not a pre-ban, WASR10s were made aftet the 94 ban. They were imported with a magwell cut out small enough to only allow single stack mags so they could skirt the 89 import ban. Century cuts the magwells out to take high caps once they get stateside. Thats why your reciever doesnt have the dimples above the mag you will see on other AKs.

I have not gotten to shoot it yet, but I have noticed that there arent any markings on the trigger group. Thanks so much everyone for your fantastic advice so far, I ordered a G2 tapco triggergroup, and retaining plate from Midway..I just want to avoid having to install the trigger later if possible..I also picked up the black SAW grip since the one that comes with the rifle is made for 8 year old's hands.

Thanks Again Everyone, much appreciated.
Any more advice is certainly welcome
