I just bought a new Bushmaster XM15 E2S A3 20" with a 1 in 9 twist. What weight range am I going to find the most accurate ammo? And what kind of "cool" accessories can you put on a 20" AR without it looking ridiculous

Yes

Try all the ammo, and figure out what works good for your rifle. Mine shoots 69 gr. great but I have a friend who gets better results with 77.

With a 1 in 9 you should be able to shoot bullets ranging from 55gr to 79gr fairly accurately. Now, which ones work best in your rifle? That's going to take some experimenting. IMO I'd start out with a 62 gr load and work from there as a baseline.

As far as hanging things on your rifle - what's "cool" to one person is an an absolute necessity to somebody and a waste of space and weight to another. You won't get anything but opinions, so here's mine: on a 20" rifle the only things I'd "hang" on it are a bipod and a scope - and both of those are iffy.

per conventional wisdom, any ammo between 50-70 grains should be fine with a 1-9 twist barrel. You may be able to shoot 75-77 grain ammo but it is far from certain; they are right on the edge of stability from a 1-9 barrel. Try them at longer ranges before stocking up on the 70+ grain ammo. 68/69 grain match hollowpoints have a good repuation from 1-9 barrels.

It's your rifle, put whatever you want on it. Other people's opinions are highly over-rated IMO.

I use my AR for 3 gun matches. It only has a 16" barrel. I put on a verticle forearm grip which help me transistion the carbine quickly from target to target.

I presently have an Aimpoint with BUIS front and rear.

I also put on a colapsable stock. I adjust it for the type of cloths I wear during the winter (heavy jacket) through summer (T-shirt).

I can slide a Surefire light on the forearm rail if we are going to do low light shooting.

I use a single point sling with a HK hook for I can switch quickly between my carbine and shotgun.

I can't really think of anything else I'd put on the carbine that would make it more functional. The AR looks "cool" to begin with. icon_smile_cool.gif

As 1911user said, I'd stick with something between 50 and 70 grains.

As for what to hang on an AR15, I prefer the KISS approach. Sling, light, and maybe an optic. Lots of mags, lots of ammo.

Check out www.ammo-oracle.com. A wealth of info on ammo selection, barrel twist, etc. for the AR-15.

Thanks DIRKSTERG30 that site seems to answer most of the questions that I had. I'm sure it will answer even more of them as I find more time to read it mre in depth

I've read that one of the most accurate - a real favorite of shooters, is the 60gr VMAX from Hornady. It is suppose to be a champion in a 1-9 twist. It's in the sweet spot of the twist rate.

To guarantee stability at all ranges, stick to 69gr or less.

might want to start with 55's. Mine has a 1-9 and shoots 50's into 1/2" 3-shot groups

pez dispenser

I've been looking for a pez dispenser for my AR.

Do they fit on the accessory rail or do I need to drill & tap, and do they come in tactical black??

Hopefully, they come with a wireless remote.
