I guess I like belts. After 10 years of CC-ing, I no longer own a belt that isn't a gun belt. I've tried Aker, Beltman, DeSantis and Wilderness Tactical. So I'm pretty well covered for almost whatever I want to wear. Almost. From my perspective, getting to wear cargo pants & a cover garment is a bit of a luxury when it comes to CC. Five days per week, I'm at least in 'business casual,' meaning khakis and a button-down shirt. At least. Three or four days per week, I'm in a suit. It's not often that I have to throw on a jacket and go to court, but it does happen.

For about 7-8 years, I've used my DeSantis Econobelt as a dress belt for whenever I needed a black belt. Unfortunately, the last couple of suits I bought have belt loops that are just barely big enough to get it through. When I try to holster up in the mornings, I wind up looking like I've been playing drunken Twister. My zipper ends up on one hip, one front pocket behind my back . . . You get the picture. And yes, I took the Econobelt with me when I tried on the suits. It was fine for my last few suits and I thought it would work out OK, but it didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped.

Anyway, the Econobelt is a 1.5" belt, so I went on the hunt for a 1.25" belt. I wanted something plain, something nondescript, something . . . incognito. No basketweave, no western patterns, just a plain, black leather belt that would discreetly hold up a S&W Shield Plus and 2 spare mags under a suit jacket.

After making The Spats McGee Long List (tm), and narrowing it to The Spats McGee Short List (tm), and a quick consult with my Overthinkers Anonymous sponsor (who was no help whatsoever), I ordered a Daltech Italian Leather Steel Core Dress Belt. Here's the description from Daltech:

Do I really need a steel core to hold up a Shield Plus & a couple of mags? Probably not, but I've been curious about the steel core belts for a while, and most of the 1.25" belts still looked awfully thick to be threaded through the belt loops on a suit.

First impressions: Good. My belt just arrived yesterday, so I haven't had a ton of time to examine it. With that said, the edges are smooth, the color is even, and the stitching looks good. Putting it on the first time felt a little strange, as it 'behaves' a little differently than the belts I have with a kydex insert. I didn't exactly run a marathon in my suit, but it was certainly comfortable enough between the house and the car. So far, so good.

I expect to wear this belt quite a bit. Hopefully, I'll remember this thread and come back to update it from time to time to see how this belt holds up.

Shield Plus weighs about 20.2 ounces loaded if my Google is working. Figure 5oz for 2 spares for an even 25. There are a lot of non gun belts that can probably handle that weight without much issue. Before landing on Kore belts I was using an Econobelt. I was also carrying much more gun and ammo, to the tune of 30+ oz. My duty sized carry gun is 35.55 without the spare 17round magazine. Econobelt carried the weight but not very comfortably. I haven't and doubt I will make the jump to steel core belts as long as the Kores hold up, and I have no reason to believe they won't.

FWIW My belts are 1.5" and I have no issue threading them through 1.25" belt loops on dress pants or khakis. Even with a tucked in polo shirt around my holster it just looks like a nice designer belt to those that aren't gun people. I look forward to your further thoughts on the Daltech belt.

I have had good luck with Magpul El Original and El Burro. Both fit well with my suit pants and look professional. I especially like the El Burro with my smaller guns like the Glock 43 or 43X.

I like your belt though and have always wanted to give the steel core belts a try!

Keep us updated once you have some more time on the belt.

Been using the Daltech for years now. My go to entirely. Put the snazzy solid buckles from Andy Arratoonian (he sent me a couple spares before he closed up shop) and use them for general carry all the way to what count for "dressy" to me. Great belts. Looks like leather if that's what you want, but no environmental concerns, wear, scuffing, etc.

Zero qualms suggesting them.

Some more good suggestions here. Thanks, folks. I didn't even realize that Magpul made belts, nor did I think about looking at Midway.

I have the super bio from Daltech https://www.daltechforce.com/collections/superbio-gun-belts/products/superbio-black and I have had it for a few years so far and was going to get another as a backup but I can’t see this one ever failing and needing to be replaced. It still looks as good as when I got it and I wear it daily. I carried the first few years a G17L with a tlr-1HL iwb and a spare mag and Gerber multitool, and now a 5” steel 1911 with 2 spare mags and the Gerber and I don’t even notice I’m carrying most of the time. I tried several belts before and none were comfortable with that much weight plus what’s in my pockets.

Just a quick update: So far, so good. This belt is comfortable and totally incognito as a dress belt. Well, maybe almost totally. As it turns out, there is enough steel in the liner to set off a courtroom metal detector. Fortunately, I'm in a position to test that without alarming the bailiff.

When the courthouses in NYC first got magnetometers (metal detectors) in the '80-90's, attorneys had to go through them.

After a number of them were caught with aluminum foil wrapped coke, the bar associations complained about the indignity of officers of the court having to be searched. The courts issued them attorney ID's and they were allowed to bypass them.

Thanks for the review, Spats McGee. I’m also an attorney and had to be in court almost everyday my first five years of practice, but my practice is now more transactional so I don’t go to court like I did in the past. Still, I had been wondering if there was a decent 1.25” gun belt on the market for those few times I may need to suit up in dress pants with the small belt loops, and thanks to your review I now know that there is.

I have a Shield Plus, which I’m guessing is the same weight as your your Shield, if not a tiny bit more. So that’s also good to know.

Actually, mine is a Shield Plus, too. And I carry 2 spare mags on the weak side. I accidentally misstated things above, but I did carry a Shield 1.0 for about 4 years.

After ~3 months of 3-4 days of wear per week, I declare this belt a winner. It shows almost no wear and is remarkably comfortable.

That's great, man, I'm glad you're happy with your belt. I think I'll stick to making fancy belts, but I have a good belt in mind should I ever want to buy one.
