Beretta has a few new guns coming out. They have the PX4 in .45acp due out any time as well as a sub-compact PX4. They also have a semi-auto .223 called the RX4 Storm out. Does anybody have any experience yet with these guns? I'm not even sure if they're on shelves yet, but maybe somebody has held them.

I have a beretta PX4 9mm (they been out for a bit) and I love it. One thing I noticed with the PX4 is it jammed a bit with the first 100 rounds, but now that I put over 1000 rounds in it ... I haven't experience a single jam in the last 500. The reason I chose the gun was simply because it fits very well with my hand. Before I bought the gun (new gun owner here) I was firing glocks, a couple 1911, S&W, the 92 model .... and the PX4 simply felt the best.

I really don't think you cain't go wrong with berettas and their PX4. Its also a damn good looking gun, tho that shouldn't be your main concern. As far as accuracy goes for the PX4, its one of the best (but since I still suck at shooting, I cain't take advantage of that :cuss: ). Its also VERY easy to field strip, you can take the entire thing apart and back togeather in less than a minute.

Go buy yourself a PX4 :) :) :) You know you want to .....

Love my PX4 9MM its a fun gun to shoot and very accurate. Some people complain that its ugly but I don't see it. Its just ultra-modern looking and I think very elegant. It feels great in the hand and has real nice fit and finish, no complaints so far from this end.

...

Yep, Px4 40cal here.. 700 rounds so far, no problems. Took about first 250 rounds to get the grip, use of long back-strap, finally, to keep my hand naturally high up on the top back grip (one of 3 back-straps that come with purchase), which then settled down the recoil balance for continued shots, and finding the sweet-spot on the front sight, to bring it all home.

Same deal, the fit in hand (naturally) along with the lesser weight and balance, made it and a Sig P229R CT 9mm, choice of weapons.

Next will be a 45 cal, either Sig, or as you say, Beretta Px4 45cal, rumor has it, will be released sometime this summer.

I could easily see the PX4 in .45 doing well against the XD and Glock 21, particularly for those shooters that want a high-cap .45 with a manual safety. I like Beretta quite a bit, but I don't see myself getting into any of these particular new guns, thought the .223 might be worth a look.

I have the PX4 9mm and have the following observations.

At about 2500 rounds, one of my 20 round magazines inserted into the gun and the 1st round nose dived into the frame. The same mag did it again the next range session, and 17 rounder that came with the gun did also.

Diagnosis: Bad magazine springs. I called BUSA, they provided a way to test, I did, and confirmed. Only 2 of 5 magazines have this problem.

At ~3800 rounds I had FTF with WWB, in fact the round would not chamber under tap/rack/bang SOP so I removed the mag, cycled the slide about 3 times and the round fell clear. I retrieved the round from the floor and it was unscathed. Visually it was normal appearing and in comparison to the other rounds it was virtually identical. Locking the slide to the rear and loading that round into an empty mag, the round chambered. Loading it back into the original mag on top of the 16 remaing rounds, it chambered again. It fired also as did all the other rounds that night.

Diagnosis: Unknown cause.

Incidentally, from the same "batch" of WWB, purchased at the local Walmart but a different box I noticed that the recoil was quite pronounced. I retrieved several of the spent cases and these rounds were cratering and dimpling the primer showing signs of overpressure.

I'm not sure what the service life is *supposed* to be on the PX4 magazine springs but in any case I'm under 5k rounds through this pistol, so keep this in mind. It's possible that they were just bad springs to begin with but I've got original 92 magazines that I bought in 1990 that failed to lock the slide back for the 1st time in October of 2006. They had *never* been cleaned or so much as been in the same room as a gun cleaning product.

The PX4 is very accurate for a 'service' gun, easily on par with any of it's intended competitors. If you are comfortable with a DA/SA, then you may like the PX4 very much, but if double action isn't your cup of tea, then stick with the short single action triggers.

As always, YMMV. IANAL. TINLA. Etc.

I've been interested in that pistol for some time - but I'm not experienced with them.

How's the trigger? In DA? In SA? More generally, I've gotten used to SIGs, HKs (in DA/SA) and Para Ordinance LDA, so how do they compare?

Weight wise, the trigger is the best out of the box that BUSA offers short of an Elite series gun. That said, there's a LOT of take up. More so than on a 90 series gun, but manageable. It's very easy to like this gun.

The gun has Beretta's "90 series D model" spring in it stock so the pull is less than 10 pounds DA, about 4-5 pounds SA.
