I recently got this pistol back from Benny Hill (Triangle Shooting Sports), who built a 9x19 upper for it.

The idea was to lighten up the slide a bit, and use durable fixed sights. Recoil spring is 10#. Tripp hard-chrome over the top.

140mm mags have a capacity of 22-23.

The main intended use is tactical matches that have no power factor (though it can be loaded with long & hot reloads). With the mag-well removed, it's not too big for carry using a flush-fit mag.

Hahaha, Bozeman took the words right out of my mouth.

That's a really cool piece, though. Capacity like that is handy. I like the idea of removing the magwell to make a carry piece. If you ever get really bored when it's off, snap a pic of that for us, eh?

Does that take the place of those wonderful, beautiful Yost Hi-Powers of yours that I once saw?

Yeah, I'll snap some pics the next time I have the mag-well off. I'm taking this to the CMMG MO 3Gun match this weekend.

The SV 9 is not really concealable like the BHPs were, so it doesn't really take their place as a CCW. It does give me a 1911/2011 platform for shooting 9mm, however. In that sense, it does.

If Benny built it that pretty much assures it runs extremely well, assures it is as accurate as it could be too.

Any idea what the slide weighs? What barrel did he use?

Another trip to TX for a Kart bushing barrel and a Krebs magwell would make that a SUPERB IDPA gun too.....

Is that the frame from your 40?

Wow... that looks fantastic!

but what's up with the "blaster" stuff? Have you been reading Gold Eagle paperbacks, or what? "Blaster" is totally not a real word outside of "Deathlands" novels. ;)

Along these same lines, I have often wished Kimber would make the Basic Polymer Pro II in a 9mm model. That would give you a concealable 9mm with a trigger like a 1911, about a 17rd flush fit capacity and the one .45 grip I have handled that feels as good as a Hi-Power in the hand.

Very nice Zak. I would like to get some trigger time on that, it must be ULTRA soft shooting. No PF would have me digging out the Zero 147 JHP bullets and a can of Clays.......... Would feel like a 22......

Sweet.

It actualy does look a bit like a "blaster".

Looks like it ought to be the issue sidearm for starfighter pilots or something...

:D

Nice!

there is no such thing as too much fun...

9mm...there is something about running thru most of a box of WWB with only 4 mags. :p

Another favorite "9" is the 9x23 in a Caspian Frame & Slide 1911 style...

Yeah I know I like my traditional Wood&Blue bone stock 1911s in .45...
...don't mean I do not / cannot shoot a Blaster. ;)

Thanks for sharing!

HSMITH,

I'm probably going to try out some N310, Montana Gold 124's, and small rifle primers. Not sureif I will load long yet or not.

I have shot some 90gr Gold Dots out of it (5.some gr N320), and recoil IS like a .22.

Forgive a dumb question, but what did it start out as?
SV frame.

LOL, that would be a great steel load as long as there are no falling targets. I need to pick up some 90's and try them in my 9's, sounds like fun!! I could load them up with a bunch of Power Pistol for flash and noise to impress my buddies, "look how flat these CANNON loads shoot out of this gun" LOL.

310 and Clays feel about identical to me in 9mm but I haven't shot much 310, and both are 'clean once a year' powders with TMJ or JHP bullets. I am told that 310 is more temperature stable and more considerate of small changes in higher pressure loadings. Any experience there? Just curious, why the SRP instead of pistol?

The more I think about that gun the more of a good idea I think it is. I need to have one built but I think I will do an open gun first. Too bad the wife and kids won't eat Alpo with me, could get them both this year yet with a $40 per month grocery bill:evil:

If the goal is a fast recoil impulse using a moderate to heavy bullet and a relatively small amount of a moderate or fast powder, I believe a rifle primer can produce faster ignition, 20-40fps extra, and they often reduce the S.D.'s dramatically.

If you want to load those 90's up, try 3N37. It's easy to get them to 1600fps..

nice uppers, but I don't care for the grip, the mag well, or the magazine. Might be fine for competitions but I don't like the "skirt" quality of mag wells. Take that puppy off, put on a nice simple black grip, and you're off to the races.

Thanks for the info Zak. I have an experiment in 40 ready to go to the range, Win SRP, SPP, Fed SP and SPM all with the exact same load. The goal was exactly what you cite as your reason for using SRP.

1600:what: That makes Minor!! If they didn't turn to dust on impact they should take down poppers:what:

My buddy just fot a 6 inch 2011 from STI chambered in 9mm!! Boy is that ever a soft shooting gun.
