Picked up my new buckmark camper .22LR yesterday. I already had a few goodies at home waiting for it...tacsol rail, holographic red dot, and a 7.25" tacsol barrel. I'm not installing the barrel yet as I want to shoot the original barrel for awhile first...

Great minds think alike

Congrats on the new BM. I have that exact gun and love it. The grip, the sights, trigger, everything is real nice out of the box. I have just gotten her broken in. I am getting 1-hole groups at 15 yds.

You?

Enjoy and thanks for the pics.

Buckmark Camper: Misfire, FTF, FTE

I bought the Buckmark Camper stainless steel two months ago. So far, I have run 1500 rounds through it - 1000 Federal 36 grain hallow point, and 500 Remington 36 grain hallow point.

I'm not sure if it's the nature of the ammunition, rim fire versus center fire, or the gun itself, but I have had an unacceptable number of misfires, failures to eject, and failures to feed.

I've noticed that after 150 plus rounds the front screw of the Sight Base becomes lose. This causes the firing pin to misalign and the gun to misfire. The solution, I take the allen wrench to the range and tighten the screw after 5 or 6 magazines.

The failure to eject could be due to cheap ammo or a jerky slide movement due to grind accumulated after 150 rounds. The gun seldom has problems ejecting in the first 100 rounds. I always take it to the range clean.

The failure to feed could also be due a dirty ramp after 150 rounds.

The Buckmark is more accurate than I am. After a few magazines, I could place 1 - 2 inch groups at 15 to 20 feet. I had never shot a pistol prior to buying this one.

Shooting this pistol is rewarding because it’s very accurate. I also think that if you are going to learn to shoot a .22 caliber is excellent because the ammo is in expensive and there is hardly any recoil, so the user does not develop any flinches.

I've noticed that after 150 plus rounds the front screw of the Sight Base becomes lose.

There should be a split lock washer for each of the screws that hold the top strap on. Easily lost if your not careful during disassembly. When in place you'll normally not have any problems with the screws backing out as long as you thighten them snug the first time.

Gallo, I encourage you to try some Remington Thunderbolt ammo in your Buck Mark. I recently bought the Lite Splash version of the Buck Mark, and I absolutely love it! I used various brands of ammo in it and was plagued with misfires and stove-piping with some of them.

To my happy surprise, I shot a 50 round box of Thunderbolts, and had no problems at all. That prompted me to buy a brick of them. I can still hardly believe that I subsequently shot the entire 500 rounds without a single stovepipe. The accuracy of the Thunderbolts for me is wonderful, and I'm sure glad that I discovered them.

how are those tactical solution barrels? local shop has a bunch of Rugers with them, wondering if they are any good.

In response to Steve C and Corner Pocket,

The front screw holding the Sight Base has a washer, and if I tighten it more it would probably strip.

I don't recall the type of Remington ammo I bought. It's the one that Wal-Mart sells in a box of 550 for roughly $10. I'll look for the Thunderbolt line next time.

Thank you both for the advise.

So I shot the new purchase on Sunday. Went thru 500+ rounds of CCI minimag, had ONE misfire, no jams, no stovepipes. Gallo, try that brand as well - from what I've read elsewhere, the buckmarks seem to do well with CCI.

This thing is way more accurate than I am. I was able to manage 3" groups at 15 yards - while pulling the trigger as fast as I could. :D

My rail screws don't have washers - mine didn't loosen at all the entire time. Must be a model-specific thing or maybe the new buckmarks don't use the washers.

Hoppy590, I've done a lot of research on the Tac Sol barrels and I have yet to read ONE negative comment about them - and there are tons of comments on other boards. Their customer service is top-notch too. I'd highly recommend them, the machining/quality is top-notch. I looked very closely at the barrel/rail I bought from them and I did not find a single flaw.

Hey Badkharma, I thought we in the fine state of California couldn't get the Tac Sol barrels. I think I asked this question on a rimfire forum last year and was told no. (And that's one of the reasons I can't wait to move to Oregon next year!)
Have things changed?

That might be the case for the Ruger - not sure - because for the Ruger you have to ship to to an FFL. Not so for the buckmark as it is just the barrel, unlike the Ruger, so it just ships to your house.

Note that Tac Sol does offer threaded barrels, which would be restricted in CA.
