I grew up in CT.
When I joined the military in 1977, people owning guns was commonplace. I grew up with my dad having his WWII 1911 by his bedside.
I joined up and left CT. My sister married a guy from the next town over, who joined the military the year after I did. He was stationed in Groton (sub base), and got his CHL (or whatever they called it back then). I believe it was $5 or so at that time.
They divorced at some point, so I have not been I touch with him for some time. I hope he still has a CHL, or I hope he has moved out of CT.
But I'm sure it is not that easy these days.
I will never ever go back, except maybe to visit the graves of my grandparents, parents, brother, aunts, uncles, etc.
At best, it will be once, before I sign off permanently.
And that is assuming some exceptional prescience/planning on my part.
New England was once upon a time, the Cradle of Liberty.
These days it is the Montessori School of Socialism.
