A couple months ago I didn't pass up on a 6721 from Buds with a low "make an offer" price ($755). Looks good. Shoots good for my skill set. Has a surprisingly nice trigger for mil-spec. The date of manufacture is August 2014.

Only surprise was that it came with a two-position buffer tube with a standard m4 stock. The tube looks good, otherwise. Is this a normal variation for a Colt AR or a 6721?

It shoots comfortably for me with the stock extended, so it's not a problem, but product descriptions say it should be a four-position stock.

Someone forgot to drill a couple of holes? If it is a problem receiver extensions are readily available and not terribly expensive. All my Colt stuff has four adjustment holes.

2 position used to be "standard" for us...

All of our CARs, early M-4s with the "DELTA" stocks and early M-4s with M-4 stocks were all a mere two positions...

For us in 5th SFG(A) anyhow.

Only real difference we noted was that the 2 position stocks were overall shorter than the later 4 position stocks. Rather like the difference between A-1 and A-2 stock lengths... What, 5/8 inch or so?

yes, it is a little shorter than the four-position. an actual two-position.

i think colt still makes them for existing or retro builds. Maybe they were using up old stock??? or it otherwise got mixed in.

Probably find the end of the tube to be a perpendicular plane to the axis of the tube rather than slanted like the buttstock itself.

All this being the case, consider it nuevo-retro. Or "old school" M-4.:D

nuevo retro. i like that, especially when the lop fits. now i just need to put a carry handle and car-15 stock on it.

Yup - go mondo-retro and get one of the first coated aluminum stocks. Nice weight, cool coatings and right for the 2 position. Last one I sold went for something like $225.00 or more. Real sweet authentic unit that usually got thrown away with "upgrades" back in the day.

Have you checked to make sure that you don't have a commercial buffer tube with an M4 "clone" stock on it? I've seen some strange substitutions on brand-new carbines from dealers.

Not that it matters that much...you got a Colt for a great price. Put whatever buffer tube and stock on it that you want and you'll still be way ahead.

Congrats!

To ApacheCo Todd:

Keep in mind that the perpendicular vs. slanted rule isn't sacrosanct. Some military tubes with six-position capability have been produced with slanted backs. Probably not relevant to this discussion but worth noting. I do like your neuvo-retro reference, btw.

Thank you for your service to our country, sir.
