Hey High Road!

I posted some load data in another thread comparing velocity between my 2” King Cobra and 4” Python. This is the finalization of that work with emphasis on the 2” gun I carry occasionally.

Here are my final loads:
* All brass Starline
*All primers Federal small pistol match
*All charges determined from ladder test for accuracy
* Velocity is average for 10 shots

38 special
Federal HST 130 grain jacketed wadcutter HP
5.0 grains CFE Pistol
964 fps
Soft

38 special (probably +P)
Speer 135 grain Gold Dot HP
7.4 grains 3N37
1019 fps
Mild

38 special
Remington 125 grain SJHP
7.2 grains 3N37
992 fps
Soft

38 special +p
Remington 125 grain SJHP
8.8 grains 3N38
1118 fps
Snappy but easily manageable
* No .38 special data exists for 3N38. Data extrapolated from several sources. I’ve used 3N38 quite a bit in several calibers.Comparable charge range to AA#5. Tested 8.2 - 9.0 grains with no primer flattening. Use with caution in guns chambered for .38 special only

357 magnum
Remington 125 grain SJHP
7.3 grains N320
1159 fps
Less felt recoil than 8.8 3N38 in 38 brass

357 magnum
Remington 125 grain SJHP
13.7 grains N105
1281 fps
You know it’s a magnum load but felt recoil not excessive

38 Special target load
158 grain Xtreme Plated SWC
4.1 grains N320
Mild, accurate, and fun
