Well, ever since I've been on this Colt collecting kick, I told my LGS to look out for some for me. I've been buying guns from him for years so he told me he would call. Well, its been about 3 weeks, but he called the other day and told me about a guy who just traded in 5 Colts revo's. I went today to look at them and I couldnt resist. I bought these 2. The Cobra was in the box and still had the paper work with it (I added the Badger grips off of another Cobra), and the Python was without the box. They both appear to be new and barely fired (if at all), so I got them. I paid 1218.00 plus tax. The Python will sit in the safe, but I plan on carrying the Cobra! BTW....the Cobra is a 1977, and the Python is 1979.

You're not playing fair. When I ask about old revolvers at my LGS they look at me like I just landed on this planet. Congrats on the purchase, though. Those are some fine looking ponies.

"Phydeaux, bad dog....no biscuit!"

Thanks fellas. Again....Im not into Pythons, but at this point, Ill take em. I hate having them in the safe for ever, but I dont really want to chance scratching one because I took it out to shoot it.

Kev, those are two sweeet lookin Colts! Congratulations!

Phydeaux, my LGS are just like yours. No old revolvers to be found. The one shop I was at today said they wish they could get some. They get requests all the time for used 2 and 4 inch 38s.

Nice guns. The Python might be a nice full-size, but that cobra sure looks like it would be a nice carry piece, and it has six shots (we need a big manufacturer [ruger/smithwesson] to start producing a similar revolver). BTB, a good carry load would be the Buffalo Bore standard pressure LSWCHP, 158 grain. Outperforms its +P cousins and is safe to carry in older, alloy guns. Also avaliable in a 150 gr "New Jersey" non-hollowpoint load, with a hard cast alloy.

Hey, thanks guys! CZ.22...................yea, thants what in all my snubbies right now (the Buffalo Bore 158gr LSWCHP). I didnt realize they made the 'New Jersey' load. I carried the Cobra tonight up to Target with the kids and its so nice and light.

So what you've got is a really cool paper weight. I've got guns that I've had and shot for 20+ years that look new. I'd use 'em and enjoy 'em. Just be careful.

I go to the range and lay down a mat, open the hard side case and take out the guns. Shoot and put them back.

The 870 on the bottom has been used many seasons and has been in rain, snow, etc. Taken probably 15-20 deer. Still looks great.

I took the Cobra and a Detective Special out today and ran 100rds through them. Man they are fun to shoot! The 158gr LSWC hit point of aim at 10 yards. I feel real comfortable with them.

kev, glad to hear they shoot well. The ammo you're referring to is the Buffalo Bore stuff, right? I gotta try some of that and see how it compares to the Speer Short Barrel GDHP.

Actually no Tex, its just some 158gr LSWCHP from Midway that I loaded up myself. I used about 6.2gr of Blue Dot, and they did actually well. I didnt bring my chrono though.

Kev, any leading with that load?

Man, I think I need to shutdown my GunBroker account... or get a second job. I've got 9 Colts in my watch list right now and all of them are revolvers!

Thanks guys!!

Ed......No sir I didnt experence any leading with those. My Speer loading manual listed a starting load at 6.3, and I used 6.2, so I know the velocity was pertty low. But still, the little things were quite amazing. I hear people so upset with the new Colt Agent .45 not having any traditional sights, but after shooting yesterday, I dont think you really need them. These D-frames dont have anything but trench sites and they were hitting COM at 10 yards easy. I was even keeping all 6rds in the head (if I shot slow and single action). I was impressed!

You must have found a dealer that is really nice to do those transfers for you. Mine is so hesitant:banghead:

Such bull...!

Everybody knows that you can't hit a barn sideways with a snubby if it's more then a card table length away... :D

You do realize don't you, that these wild reports of point-shooting accuracy are liable to drive up already high prices???

Under no circumstances should you obtain and read any books or other material associated with the late Col. Rex Applegate. Doing so might boggle your mind.

Always remember, ignorance is bliss... ;) :D

Congrats. My Dad had a nickel phython when I was a kid. He traded a lot, and it left us, but I still think that's one of the sharpest revolvers ever made. Definitely the corvette of revo's. Hope you enjoy them.

Kev, I'll have to try Blue Dot. I have a bunch of 158 gr. cast SWC bullets and some 158 gr. Berrys plated flat nose bullets I need to load.

I had put a light load together using HP-38 and I wasn't happy with it.

Im not saying the Blue Dot is any better Ed, but its just what Im used to. It seems to burn clean and I've never had any issues with it. Not to mention I stocked up years ago with the stuff, so Im using it up. :D

Understood. I'm thinking it should be better for a couple reasons.

One, Blue Dot will take up more space in the case, so there is less chance for a flash-over. That should result in more consistent velocity.

Two, Blue Dot is a slower powder, so there should be less chance of barrel leading.

We'll see. I hope to load some in the next couple days and test this weekend.
