Is there a difference in the feed ramp? I have not had the chance to examine an "older" 97. I ask because my 97 is feeding JHP's like candy. So far mine has fed WW Personal Defense 230 JHP, Montana Gold 185 JHP, and Zero 185 JHP's without a single hiccup. Of course 230 ball does well as expected. The slide chambers these JHP rounds so smoothly it's almost like there isn't a round in the mag. None of that "Kaa-chuunnk" sound, just a quick "schlack".

The only JHP's mine has not fed 100% are the truncated cone or flat faced 185 gn JHP's with a pronounced sharp shoulder, like the Hornady XTP's.

if you keep on buying the most interesting and desireable pistols that I can't afford, I'm not gonna speak to you any more......

I'm not sure that there has been any change. Some have said that the earlier version had a slight hump to the ramp. I'm not sure. The folks that will know are here...

The first production run of CZ 97Bs (1998, possibly some 1999) did not have the front serrations. The feed ramp was slighly different, and the magazines were not flush-fitting. My very early model in polycoat below:

FEG,

Thank you very much for your post. The info and pictures you provided are very interesting. I have read numerous times in the past the 97 does not like hollow points and I have no doubt this was the case. I hesitated in buying a 97 due to this.

I have attempted to make my 97 fail with HP's by feeding it a variety of potentially problematical ammo. So far, it has exceeded my expectations.

Thanx.

Mine is a 1998, I like the lack of front serrations but it has failed to feed more than my other autos. Not tremendously so, but definitely noticeable. Any way to get an updated barrel?

My CZ97B feeds HP rounds perfectly. It's an old rumor that needs to die.

Like the vast majority of .45s, the earliest 97Bs did not like the "flying ashtray" designs. The only current load they seemed to have trouble with was the 200 or 230 gr Federal Hydrashok (straight ogive).

Not all 1998 models are affected. Mine choked on some old Speer JHPs (pre-Golt Dot) when it was brand new, but never hiccuped again.

Telephone CZ-USA. They will do a free ramp job on the older barrels. You don't want a new barrel, because it won't be handfitted to the slide like the original. I've never bothered, by the way.

Is that a Glossy Blue one? Mine is polycoat, my first experience with polycoat. I like it.

Mine functions fine with the limited amounts of Remington Golden Saber 185 grain and Federal HST 230 +P I have fired from it, the occasional choke has been with more typical range ammo like WWB and Remington UMC.
