I didn't start out wanting a CZ.* As a matter of fact I have been sold on 2 models of Walther 9mm pistols starting about 5 years ago.....first it was the compact PPS for carry, then right as I was about to purchase an H&K P30, I found the PPQ which changed everything.* So naturally I purchased the PPQ 22lr. so I could have a 22 trainer and I was right on the verge of purchasing the 5 " PPQ(waiting for the prices to come down a little more),* when the P-09 caught my attention and I started researching and reading articles and reviews on it, and other CZ's.

**** What I discovered was another high quality manufacturer (CZ) that* I felt I could trust, and a 9mm in the size I was looking for and with very low felt recoil which is a big interest to me.* Even better was that I found the P-09 for $441.00, so with all the research I did (i was confident that I didn't even have to hold it) I went for it and ordered it.*

Grab a gun sent it out overnight FedEx, so after a few initial days of processing I had it in hand in less than a week.

I brought it initially to a "special" outdoor range (the closest safe place outside of city limits on public land) and ran a mag thru it straight from the box and it did not disappoint.* No hiccups or bobbles, flawless with factory grease and all......just the way it should be!

**** So after taking it home and doing a proper cleaning and lubing, took it back out again a few days later to my regular out door range.* I ran it side by side with my PPQ M1(4 inch)to get a better idea of its accuracy (in my hands) and function.*

I was pleasantly surprised at its very low felt recoil, and mostly ease of operation.* Its controls (slide release, and mag release) are not as convenient or easy as the Walther PPQ (no change of grip to operate any controls), but fine none the less. The grip ergonomics are great, but not nearly as excellent as the PPQ (Ive been spoiled) so i intend to try a rubber grip sleeve or some grip tape to try to get it a tad closer to the PPQ.* The sights also are a bit lacking (small) compared to PPQ, but I also don't have the time in with the CZ that I have with PPQ so I can't be too critical.

Shooting was excellent, and a delight.* Everything ive shot so far has been 115gr fmj.* Recoil was so light I was wanting to race thru the mags (and definitely lighter than the PPQ M1), but mostly held myself in check to get an adequate evaluation.* I have to give the slightest edge to the PPQ, but considering the sights and that the CZ is DA/SA, and brand new to me, I was thrilled.* I actually really like the fact that it's fairly different (DA/SA - hammer) than the precharged striker of the PPQ, keeps me interested and fondly brings me back to my earlier(hammer) days experience with Sigs.

I am fully impressed with CZs quality,* fit and finish is excellent! Can't wait to get back out and run many more rounds thru it. May make it my IDPA partner.* I will be looking to get new sights and may do the CGW package of trigger upgrades as well.* I've shot nearly every major brand* out there, and am not easily impressed.....but glad to say that CZ has now been added to my top choice of firearms family.....and I have a sneaking suspicion that this won't be the only CZ either!

If you really want a treat try some of their all steel or alloy framed guns. The grips are fantastic, and the are superb shooters. The 75B, SP-01, 75SA, etc.

Many years ago in a LGS I bought a CZ75, no B, that had been made during the cold war. The only thing I knew about them was the fantastic feel in the hand. CZ-USA wasn't here yet and finding genuine CZ75 mags was a real treasure hunt. It has been refinished twice and is still my main hand gun. Welcome and congrats on your new pistol.

How do you like the ppq .22? Been thinking about getting one. I need a new .22. I also want a new 9mm and I decided it's between the p09 and the new vp9. The capacity of the p09 is just plain awesome

The PPQ 22lr is OK.....It is not made in the Ulm Walther factory, but in the Umarex factory so the quality is not the same as PPQ, however the price is almost half of PPQ and I think that is what they mainly wanted.....That being said, I am glad I have it, so the feel is same as my M1, however it has mag release of M2, sights are different (and cheap) than M1 and M2 (so not a true trainer and they are proprietary but seem identical to the newer M&P 22) and it had some funny little issues in the first few mags of ammo run thru (but really couldn't tell if it was me, the 222lr ammo, or gun) but has been running smooth since....I have seen them online getting really close to the $300 mark.....When I ordered mine (thru Cheaper than dirt) they were the only ones to have any in stock and I thought I was just getting the standard version, but they sent me the 4" Tactical version with threaded barrel, which was a little bonus......I would have liked the 5" version, but no one had them in stock.....so just double check with phone call when ordering to see what your really getting if "online" is what you do....

As far as the CZ P-09, if I had both (P-09 and VP9) in front of me I would probably still go with the CZ.

The VP will probably have a better trigger out of the box, but you can get a fantastic kit from Cajun Gun Works made specifically for the P-09 that makes it excellent.

I think the overall quality of the CZ will be a little better, but any difference will probably not mean much, however the VP9 is new and unproven.....the CZ has been out for over a year I beleive and is proven....

The price for the CZ is getting real close to the $400 mark....when I started looking it was $489, I bought at $441, and I have now seen it for $429 shipped. So it has dropped about $60 in 6 weeks. Probably absolute best value in market today for a 9mm.

Almost forgot, I beleive you can get a 2 round mag extension for it as well giving you 21+1.

CZ pistols, pretty much any of them, are going to be very good pistols out of the box. Mine was. However, I made a great pistol even better with a Cajun Gun Works hammer. For me, there would be no decision between the P-09 and the PPQ . . . . . or even the VP9. YMMV

PPQ Rocks

The PPQ is the one to beat. CZs are excellent. I've read that the VP9 is a quality build with a good trigger and a good reset. It's also larger and heavier than the PPQ.

You can't go wrong with any of them.

Doing an overnight survival hike yesterday, and only brought my CZ P-09 (9mm)for hunting. Trying to fish and hunt for our food sources. After breaking camp this morning and heading (4-5 mile) back out, saw our first rabbit of the trip. Got it twice while it was running. So we had hare for breakfast, but wasn't even prepared to shoot at anything since we were on our way out and didn't have hearing protection on. Didnt bother my ears at all.....I was very surprised, and a few minutes later did some target shooting with no ear protection with same results..... very similar but still a little louder than my 22s. This is the first 9mm I have ever done that with and didn't need ear protection.....however I will still always wear protection (and recommend it) whenever possible when shooting, but it seems like another accidental positive discovery about the CZ P-09.
