Rifle is a Winchester M70 Safari Express in 375H&H. I have a Leupold 2.5-8x36 VX3 scope with the B&C reticle waiting to go on. I can not wait.

Sorry for the crappy pics. I have a buddy that is a much better photo taker guy than me that I will get to take some good pics and I'll post those when I can. Maybe after the range trip.

I am so flippin excited I can't stand it.

I'd be very hesitant to try anything too aggressive. Probably good ol' minwax wood wax and just hand buff it with microfiber, then terry cloth till it gleams like gold !

I assume thats walnut ? Very nice for a factory indeed. Thats an A grade at the very minimum.

.375 is a great excuse to start playing around with solids, I'm very jealous.

Also, does the action allow you to hold the trigger and close it solid, taking off the spring pressure- or has it been neutered ?

I would def. go with the minwax wood paste wax. Great stuff !

Now you can truly take any game in the world- I am so very jealous. I'm sure you are grinning ear to ear !

gotta agree with Kachok...that is a lot of gun for elk, .270 is plenty but if you got to have a cannon I guess it's your choice. I would prefer a lighter flatter shooting rifle especially in elk country.

Unless you strip it or polish it you will not bring up the grain much. Stripping will be a hassle, polishing will take time but add a shiny finish to a nice rifle.

375 H&H Trajectory is roughly the same as 30-06, so should be fine.

Very nice rifle! I hope to buy one myself at some point when I have some extra money.

Very nice! Congrats! Its close to my elk rifle ... kinda lol. Same scope but on a m70 extreme weather 338 win mag. Love the new model 70's. The wood on your new rifle looks nicer than my new supergrade, which for being their "top of the line" rifle should be a little nicer with a real ebony cap and not a plastic one. Oh well.

Good looking rifle Robert. As fine an elk round as has ever been devised. The two dozen or so elk I've killed with my .375 never seemed to complain. My longest range kill on an elk to date was at 443 yards with a .375H&H. He was quartering hard away I hit him just behind the last rib and the bullet exited the point of the off shoulder.

I don't get how a .375H&H is a "cannon" but a .338 WM is a "great" elk round? I'm guessing it's all about perception vs actual experience.

I know that you've been dreaming of that rifle for years. I'm happy for you it's a special thing to make a dream come true. Congratulations.

Congratulations on the rifle. I've shot my friend's Biesen chambered in .375 H&H and recoil is definitely stout but not unbearable. He has the same scope that you'll be using and it makes for a neat and compact package. I bought a Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS a few weeks back but chose one in .300 Win Mag for elk and such.

That is a beautiful rifle. I wouldn't mind owning one like it. I don't really know what I'd do with a 375 H&H (the 6x6 elk in my basement was shot with a .270 and went down without taking a step and personally I'd prefer not to carry a 9+lbs rifle in elk country here) but I still want one.

It was mainly a "because I wanted one" purchase. I know 30-06, or something similar, would do the job just fine. But I like to be different and I just wanted a 375. I have been saving and waiting for over a year now. Spent my rifle cash more than once on things for the family that came up and had to be taken care of, but I was finally able to get enough put away for the scope and the rifle.

As far as weight, I need to get in the gym anyway. The 9 pounds of the rifle is nothing compared to the 30lbs I need to lose before hunting season.

Well Robert, as long as you can handle the weight/recoil, place your bullet where you need it and keep it behind the shoulder to avoid blowing all the meat up I say NICELY DONE :D I have wanted a 375 for years myself but for the life of me I cannot find a good enough excuse to justify it here in the deep south, who knows with global warming maybe brown bear will migrate down here LOL.

A 375 ON ELK !!!! man i didnt know elk started wearing kevlar and steel plates, guess ill have to upgrade from a 6.5x55  Nice looking rifle just too much gun in my opinion.
There is no such thing as an upgrade from a 6.5x55 you can size up but no way can you upgrade from perfection :D

A 375 ON ELK !!!

I'm guessing you've never shot one and have no experience with one? I am shocked however that a Swede would recommend a 6.5X55.:D

Nice looking rifle just too much gun in my opinion.

I share your fear and am also afraid that this caliber will kill elk too dead.

Guys I am not using solids. 375 is perfectly fine for Elk. It is no worse than any of the 338s that folks tout as the uber Elk round. I wanted the rifle and I plan on doing some hand loads to work up and good middle of the road hunting round. Just because I can shoot 350gr solids out of it for Cape Buffalo does not mean that I would do that for Elk. As far as too much gun, well that is just silly. Recoil has never been an issue for me.
