A while ago, I got this nice 1954 No-4 Mk-2 Irish Contract Enfield for 200$ from a gun show.
Think I got a good deal?

Sorry about the giant pictures. xD

Nice price for a late No4 Mk2. A lot of the so-called "Irish contract" rifles aren't really from a Republic of Ireland contract, but for some reason they all seem to be called that. The Irish contract was for 50,000 rifles and the serial number block was PF 309348 to PF 359347. Most were never delivered.

Excellent rifle. Here's my No4 1941 plus an original slip dated 1941 also:

That is a beautiful Enfield. I would be a bit anxious about taking a gun to a range which qualifies to be in the Louvre by the Mona Lisa and ancient jewelry.
Does "a while ago" mean months, or several years?

Where do you get 500? Even in gun broker they run in the 300 range. They are great rifles but I just sold mine because of ammo cost.

We must be looking at different No4's. The 1954 and 1955 UF and PF MkII's in unissued condition have sold for over 1K and average around $600. $300 well buy a nice MkI or MkII that was been in service.

I got mine in minty condition about 13 years ago for $200.
I consider them the pinnacle of the Enfield .303 progression & an excellent rifle, even without "battle" history.
Took me many years of trading up through lesser-condition Enfields to end up with that one.
You got a great deal.
Denis

I believe about a year ago. But even then, 200$ was still a great deal.

There is one at a gun shop I can buy right now with $249 being the asking price. If I didn't have so many other projects ongoing I would buy it
It's worth buying just to turn it around. I have never worried about how many projects I have going on when I run across a great deal.
How far north in MS is this gun shop? I might want to take a little drive.

Just south of Memphis. Be quite a drive for you. I buy lots of guns that I know I can make a decent profit in quickly. But, i've got 2 such guns to put up for sale now. If one of these sells quickly I will be buying that one immediately.

A while ago these cost $90...a long while ago. More like $500+ these days. I do like the Blondie's.
a while back some moron tried selling one on consignment at an LGS for $1300...yes you read that correct. he eventually took some of the stupid out of his head and dropped the price....however it is now marked $800...might need another cleaning in that ole noggin.

A few "in the wrap" MkII's have brought over 1K on Gunbroker because of the contract the serial number represented. Most in the wrap sell for around $7-800.

I couldn't get $600 locally for one, prices vary considerably around the country and in my AO mil-surps don't move well. It's all about plastic pistols and cheap Russian rifles.

this isn't an in the wrap rifle, it's been used, the stock shows mild use, but use none the less. I would never pay a dollar over $400 for it and over here, everybody is into springfields and mosins, the enfield market is non-existent so I doubt he will ever find a buyer.
