I am a long time reader and first time poster to this website. This is an excellent resource.Anyway-I have been reading all over the internet about Glock 40 caliber pistol problems-namely the so called ka-booms of the 40 cal glock. Now I read that the fbi is issuing a new 40 cal duty load for their glock22/23-which is a 180 grain bonded bullet loaded to a velocity of 1070 feet per second. This translates into 457 foot pounds of muzzle energy. The fbi was previously using a 165 grain bullet at only 985 feet per second.Does anyone here think the fbi guns will be ka-booming all over the place with this new load?

A lot of departments have been issueing the Speer 180 grn gold dot which clocks in at 1025 fps. I have shot some of these rounds and have never had or heard of anyone having a KB with this round.

Velocity, Energy / Momentum or bullet weight isn't necessarily a good indication of pressure either unless they are significantly more than other comparable loads.

Who knows what powder they were using for the old load or what they will use for the new load.

1075 FPS for 180 is somewhat hot but there is ammunition with higher velocities, DoubleTap's 180 grain Gold Dot load produces about 1100 FPS in a 4 inch barrel.

I'm not a big fan of Glock but I suspect some of the kabooms are from using re manufactured ammunition or other cost saving measures due to ammunition shortages and increasing prices.
