New gal looking for help with Winchester Model 1897

My father just handed down to me a Winchester Model 1897 12 gauge shotgun, once belonging to my grandfather. I have been trying to find out what year it was manufactured.

Are there rules to posting the serial #? Looks like most posts just list the first few digits.

If that is the case, this shotgun's serial # is 422xxx.

The only rule is that someone could be malicious and report your gun stolen. As long as you can show prior ownership it should not be a problem I'd make sure you had archival photos of it along with any bill of sale in a safe location.

I'll keep that in mind, and just leave my post with the first three digits of serial #, in hopes for some insight on the year.
