i went to the gun show yesterday in knoxville and came home with a excellent condition 3rd gen glock 23 i shot the gun some yesterday evening with some ammo i bought at the gunshow ( remington golden sabers 180 grain 25 rounds for $7.00 abox) it shoots great is very accurate and fit my hand very well . has anyone else had any good experiences with the g23 ? good or bad? does anyone use the g23 as a carry gun? thanks for any info.:D

I had a first generation G-23, complete with the
high capacity LE/GOV'T USE ONLY magazines;
since I was a LEO. Good gun, and shot decent
groups; but it quickly became overshadowed
by the newer sub-compact G-27; as a "deep
cover" concealment firearm. And actually, I
shot tighter groups from the 15 and 25 yard
line with the G-27. But, the G-23 is a good
compromise for weight, concealment, and
balance. Enjoy~

i tried the the g27 and the g26 i just cant seem to liking those guns theyre too short and too wide for my tastes but the g23/19 size pistols fit my hand perfectly the one i got has 2 10 round magazines with but no cleaning brush or rod or owners manual i shot close to 40 rounds thru the gun yesterday 20 goldensabers and 20 winchester 180 hollow points i had left from a glock 22 i had awhile back i find i can shoot this gun very well and it fits my hand very well so this gun will definatly be going into my caryy gun rotation:cool: :D

Glock 23

The glock 23 is an excellent gun. I bought one a few years before I retired. We were carrying Glock 17's, and since I could not, then, nor now, see any benefit to a 9mm, the 23 became my primary carry gun upon retirement. The 40 is a great round, and should do you well. Good Shooting!

The G23 is my standard carry pistol. Look into the Remington Golden Saber 165gr. JHP load - it's a hottie, and is producing very, very good results on the street.

Yeah... It think they've sold about eleventy billion G23s... Very no-nonsense guns. I must admit though that the 180 gr rounds scare me at least one percent more than the 165s. :uhoh:

Believe it or not...The Glock 23 was my duty gun before I got out of law enforcement. I had the Pierce grip extension, and Trijicon night sights on it. Other than that...It was stock.
I found it to be a very nice gun, although I was never able to quite get used to the trigger, and my accuracy suffered as a result.
I have since discovered that I am fond of 1911's, but have nothing negative to say about the Glock 23.

Congrats on your G23. I had to sell mine because of money trouble, but I haven't lost hope of getting another one.

It's a lot of fun especially with 180s. It kicks like a mule!:D

cratz2 why do you say that about the 180gr bullets?
also im checking on mine as a freind of mine is an glock armourer and mine is an e series hes calling glock to see if mine needs any upgraded parts .
has anyone out theyr had to have theyre glock updated with a new frame or anything? thanks for all the replies:cool:

The 180 gr. bullet leaves very little empty space in the case compared to a 135 gr, a 155 gr. or a 165 gr. bullet. If they get seated too deeply the chamber pressures get way too high in a hurry.

This isn't usually a problem unless you reload (and aren't careful)

OR

If you repeatedly chamber the same round (some people remove their self defense rounds at the range, shoot cheap ammo, and then rechamber their self defense ammo.) If you do this, be careful that you don't let the slide slam closed repeatedly on the same round.

FWIW I have shot several thousand rounds of 180 gr. ammo through my Glock 23's and my Glock 27. All was factory ammo (mostly Blazer and UMC, some Golden Sabres and Federal EFMJ). And I still shoot the 180 Blazers - cheapest range ammo I've found.

ok thanks for the heads up i dont reload but i was just wondering why cratz said it worried him alittle more thanks:cool:

Just pure talk, nothing more. I've shot about 800 rounds or 180 gr 40S&W through my Glock and various CZs and EAAs and never had a problem. Just with many of the kabooms in 40, and the potential of over pressure being greatest in the 180 weight, if I were to strike one choice in bullet weights, it would be 180 Gr 40s.
