New Glock M17 modifications?

If I had to choose the two most important things among the great ideas posted here, I would side with a good set of night sights and quality leather. Don't waste your money on a cheap holster or belt; get the best you can afford and you will not regret it in the long run. Get yourself lots of ammunition and get to the range as much as you can!

The only Glock I have now is a 19, and long ago I added night sights, an extended slide release, a diffferent guide rod, and a bike innertube for a stickier grip. I also put Wolff springs in all my mags. If I got another Glock, I'd skip the guide rod and probably do the same mods as they seem to work for me.

Grip plugs are totally unnecessary and prevent you from putting your thumb up the backstrap to get more leverage to pull a jammed magazine free.
I find that I can get a better grip on the sides of the magazine's floor plate than by trying to stick a finger (or thumb) into the grip on my G27; it's not even an option with the G30SF.
The excuse that dirt and gunk will come up through the backstrap into the firing mechanism and prevent the gun from working is unfounded.
I'm pretty sure an LEO posted on Glock Talk about having sand impacted into that hollow space (while trying to subdue a perp) that rendered a pistol inoperative. Found the link. FWIW, I don't use a plug, but don't see any harm in them and as noted, possibly some good.

My "tricked out" G27 has the NY1/3.5# connector combo, Meprolight sights, and a smooth trigger. I also replaced the crappy finish Glock puts on the slide stop lever by parkerizing and painting it.

If you get a flashlight and look up into the Glock’s back strap you will see there is only a 4mmx4mm hole leading into the trigger mechanism housing unit, there is no way debris is going to get into there.

If any debris are going to get into the trigger mechanism housing they are FAR more likely to enter through the slide to frame gap, or most likely the slide cover plate. Go look at your Glock and tell me what is more likely, debris going WAY up into the back strap and through a small square hole that leads to no where important; or the connector cut out on the bottom right of the slide cover plate that leads right to the trigger bar/connector?

Also, if a Glock can still function after this, some dead skin and lint are not going to break it.
REAPER4206969,
Wherever it came from, you are probably right that some dead skin and lint will not break them
In the link that I posted the the person stated that sand was impacted into the grip area and rendered the pistol inoperative. I have no reason to doubt the truthfulness of his tale.

Greg

The only must have for me on any Glock is the extended slide release.
I like the fact that it's small. It makes it hard to accidentally lock the slide while you're shooting it. Whenever I'm intentionally trying to lock back the slide, I certainly won't be in a hurry. Well, maybe for clearing a double-feed?? I have given thought to buying a spare slide lock and grinding off the external bit, completely.

Interesting. I wonder if anyone can recreate this problem. I.e. grind the butt of their gun into the sand and cause the trigger and slide to lock up. Any volunteers? Maybe someone should forward it to the guy that dropped his Glock out of a plane.
