When I bought my 686 back in 2013 it had rubber pachmyers on it. I prefer wood and tried a couple sets over the years but really liked a set of Thai made grips that I moved to another gun. While searching Ebay back in April, I found a nice Rosewood set.

Now it matches up with its 22 caliber understudy

I really like the Thai grips and have 9 or 10 sets now. Three if them are this style. This set on my model 15 was on the 686 at one point

Thanks. These not only look good, but they also are shaped so they don’t pound your hand when launching 158 grain magnums too

3 or 4 months ago there was a thread called “K Frame Grips”. In that thread @wiscoaster showed a photo of his revolver with Altamont “Roper” grips. At the time I was considering some of the Thai grips. Around that time I bought a new S&W model 25 Classic. I really liked the grips on it and they appeared nearly identical to the Altamont Ropers. So I bought a set of Ropers for my model 19. I love ‘em. I will be getting a set for my model 17 as well.

Here’s the 25:

I like these grips very much.

Love those grips on your Model 15! They really look great with blued finish!
Thanks. Those were my first set of Thai grips and I had them on my 686, and on my 617. Ultimately I decided I like the dark ones on a blued gun and the Rosewood on the stainless.
I ran 50 rounds of full power, 158 grain magnums through it today with the new grips. Very comfortable shooting as I knew they would be.

Those Altamont Ropers are nice looking, but I am poor, and those cost twice as much as my Thai grips. Your Altamont Ropers look like they might be pretty good at spreading out the recoil impulse of a magnum over the whole hand

I went the Thai fingergroove grips route myself. With the .357 magnum loads there is a bit of recoil transferred to the palms so on those I think I’m going to swap them out for some rubber Higues.

ith the .38 and rimfire K frames they’re perfect fits for my hands. Those guns will keep the Thai grips .

Stay safe.

They are very nice grips and they distribute recoil well. I wish I would have discovered them sooner rather than waste money on other grips, but when folks tell you what works for them sometimes it just doesn’t work for me.
I was very tempted to try some of those Thai grips but just didn’t think they would work for me. They look fantastic. I may try them out someday, but I need to outfit 2 more guns with grips first.

Although I prefer wood grips on my revolvers, I went with a set of VZ grips for my 686. They fit the hand wonderfully.

I got this pair of Altamonts off GB last month for $15.90. They're inexpensive, fit wonderfully and feel good in the hand.

I will say this about the Altamont Roper grips on my model 19. They feel great when shooting .38 Special and .357 Magnum loads but they do not allow for loading with a speed loader and when ejecting .38s or .357s the cases hit the grip unless the cylinder is turned just right. I plan to transfer these grips to my model 17 to see how the do with .22 LR. If no obstruction there I plan to leave them on the 17 and hope that Altamont makes some more of their Coke bottle grips sometime soon. They at least have a speed loader cutout.
