Hey all, it's been a while since I have posted here. I am currently looking for a new ccw and have really taken a liking to 1911's Though since this will be a ccw I don't really want to have to worry about lubing them thoroughly before they function well. I'm fine with the break-in period, but will these fine weapons function well when not well lubed, such as my xd? I don't want to have a wet spot on my pants at the end of the day:barf: Thanks for any and all info y'all can provide for me.

Not sure how your XD functioned, but you can avoid the splattering by using a quality grease. You just can't avoid lubing good with autoloaders...:)

better to wet your pants with lube than have your gun not work because you failed to lube it. a ccw is something you're gonna want it to work when you need it.

!911 for ccw....I have a 9mm ultra compact and a 45 compact. Both have alum frames. The frame weight is lighter/better for carry, but, they do get a little sloppy after some range time. They are very reliable and take allot of abuse without much lubrication. I just clean and lube one every few months and no problems, sometimes a little slop is a good thing.

I don't think a 1911 is a good choice for CCW for many reasons.
I recommend you take a look at something like the S&W M&P40c.

I often carry my Kimber (1st series classic custom) in the colder months when I can get by wearing a jacket or coat and haven't a problem in the slightest other than minding the muzzle when sitting. Otherwise I carry a much smaller K9.

As for lube, I don't keep my 1911's dripping in oil or grease. Even with 1911's, assuming it's working properly to begin with, a little grease goes a long way.

I can't say the 1911 is the best choice for carry in the compact polymer age, but I guess I do things differently. Heck, I shave with a straight, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. If you want to carry a 1911, you can absolutely make that work just fine.

I carry a full size Kimber 1911 ccw winter or summer I use a Crossbreed Super Tuck holster. It hides well even in shorts or wearing a tux. Just clean the the gun and lube lightly I never had a problem with oil spots and I wear a tux allot.

What about a dry lubricant

What about using some kind of "dry" lubricant like S&W's "Cerflon", anyone have experience using them?

I keep my CZ P01 lightly lubed - lube attracts sand and grit out here in the desert. No issues, always works. IWB holster, no stains. :)

If you want to carry cocked and locked IWB then I suggest the CZ 75 Compact. If you want a properly lubed semi automatic pistol that won,t ruin your clothing try MILITEC lubricant.http://www.militec-1.com

PS: I do not recommend carrying cocked and locked unless in a holster.
