I just got a new P3AT hard chrome slide gun from keltec today, thought my dealer would never get one. I had ordered a pocket holster and received it before the gun came in.. My problem is the hoster is much tooo tight, the gun is too difficult to pull out..

Does anyone know a trick to loosen it up a bit? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated as always...thanks..

safety,
I posted my answer to this question over on KTOG.ORG...

here goes again.

Take your pistol and wrap it in saran wrap and shove it into the holster...DONT WRAP IT TO MUCH or you will lose the retention that Ron builds into the leather...

I use ziplock bags on mine when I am fitting them..Never had that problem that way...Ron may have made a mistake and sent you one for the P-32...There is just enough of a difference to make it a real tight fit...

If ya dont wanna do that, then drop Ron a line...He is great to deal with and stands behind his products 100%..

hope this helps..

Like azrael said, take the gun and wrap it in 2 layers of wax paper. Then holster the gun and leave it in overnight. In the morning, work the gun in and out a few times, and then strap the holster and gun on. Unholster and reholster the gun a dozen or so times and then wear it around. Then do the unholstering and holstering again. If by the end of the day it still is too tight, try wrapping the gun up with 3 layers of wax paper and repeating. This should get your holster to where you want it pretty quickly. My last new holster was broken into right where I like it in 2 days... it is an IWB, though.

Pocket holsters are a pain... There is no real way to keep the holster held tight in place during a draw, unlike a belt or good shoulder holster. Carrying in the pocket is an art of compromise. You may have to work your holster a little looser than your average holster to make drawing the gun easy.

And do check to make sure the holster isn't for a p-32. Azrael is correct, and that could easily explain your problem. If not, don't worry, brand new holsters _always_ need loosened up a little bit.

you said that right...Pocket holsters can cause alot of gray hair to start forming on your noggin...And since pocket holsters are what I sell the most of, in about 6 months I am going to be PLATINUM:D

I have changed the way I do pocket holsters for this reason...Now I just bone them tight while they dry and THEN I wrap them up, to loosen the fit somewhat...it has to HOLD the pistol but also has to let it go with minimal force..UGH!!!!!! So far so good however:cool:

The CHIMERA is coming

I have found that if a pocket holster is too tight it may come out with the gun during a draw. Consequently I prefer a somewhat looser fit then I'd want on a belt holster. I don't see retention as a problem because I've never had a gun fall out of a holster or a side pocket - or even come close too doing it. And when the holster was so fitted I never had one come out during the draw.

The suggestions on wraping the gun and leaving it in the holster for a day or two work. While I've used plastic bags and such I prefer heavy-duty aluminum foil. Use as many layers as you think necessary to get the exact fit you want.

Special thanks to Dave for responding here as well as keltec forum.

Thanks to the others also, this is a great place to learn about firearms and all related subjects. This is probably the best forum on the internet..

I am first going to try the wrapping in wax paper and leave it overnight and see how that turns out. I can't wait to shoot the little rascal, wish I had a scanner so I could post a picture of it.

I paid $269.00 for it and from what I have been able to tell that was a fair price for the hard chrome slide,no shipping or FFL charges, just tax...
