been shooting 180gr for 20> years need some da* good loads for a blr w/ muzzel break/removable. My last gun... a 1885 hw shot 1 moa @225yrds moveing to a Blr and and "new" to me wt . pre thanks!

I've been using H4350 with 165 grn, IMR 4064 in 150 grn, and IMR 4350 in 180 grn.

The book lists 59 grains of H4350 as max, but anything over 57 sticks my bolt. It's in the "extreme" line of powders and is supposed to be less sensitive to temperature. I can tell you it'll stick my bolt the same in freezing weather as it will in 100+ weather if loaded to book max, so I guess I believe them. At 57 grains it's been a good powder for me, and I've been using it in a lot of cartridges.

The Hodgdon website lists the load at 2940 fps with the 59 grain load, but off the top of my head I can't remember what I got with the 57 grains in a 22in bbl.

i also use H4350 with nosler ballistic tips. i use 58 grains though.

varget also does well in my .30-06 and isnt very temp sensitive.

Welcome to THR atvalaska, and you've chosen a great rifle.(but you knew that)
I don't load for '06 anymore, but there are many good powder combos that work well in it and 165gr is a good ballistic compromise.

Perhaps you are already aware of the different reloading sites, but here's a couple anyways.

i use 165gr sierra game kings and 60 grains of imr4350. I don't know what speed it gives but quickload says 2986 fps but hi pressure. 59 is within pressure bounds according to quicload and out of my 24 inch barrel gives 2936. is a blr a semi? if it is then all my bets are off i have only ever loaded for bolts

I use 57.5 of IMR 4350 and groups are outstanding. BUllet's a Sierra #2140, HPBT. Chrono's at 2950 from my antique 24" bbld M/70, and about 150 less from my semi BAR....(yeah, I know, it's a bolt gun load!).

Results have been great on game.....one shot DRT in nearly every instance, including a 350 wild hog.

Great compromise between the 150's & 180's.....I'd note that I picked the HP bullet as I got tired of looking at the 'dubbed' soft points left in the mag. when I stumbled on the 2140's....great bullet!

thanks for a start point!

i will/doing the same old hunting of moose and bear and what ever gets in the way...i will post my -moa! 200gr kodiak hunting round!
