LAS CRUCES - A family with gun stores in Las Cruces and Deming was arrested early Tuesday on federal charges they were illegally selling guns and ammunition to Mexican cartel members

Cliffs:
In a prepared statement issued Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales blasted the Reese family's alleged crimes.

"Those who sell firearms knowing that they will be illegally smuggled into Mexico to arm Mexican cartels share responsibility for the violence that has been devastating Mexico," Gonzales said.

I guess the same could be said for US AG Holder and other government officals who knowingly allowed guns to be sold to Mexican Cartels in Operation Fast & Furious and Operation Gunrunner.

I guess that's the perks of being in charge. You get reassigned or promoted for your crime.

BTW, I don't think this thread will last long.

jdh: Does anyone else smell a goat, a scapegoat?

I wouldn't say scapegoat, I'd say "Diversion".

The scapegoat was ATF Director Kenneth Melson who was "re-assigned".

However, these folks don't look too bright and they may in fact be guilty. How fortuitous and timely for the White House.

News on an old thread....

This case is dragging its way through the legal system. I wonder if it is worth following.

The govt case here: http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/releases/2011/110830lascruces.pdf

The defense case previewed: http://www.lcsun-news.com/las_cruce...overnments-conspiracy-theory-deming-gun-sales
Brian Fraga, "Lawyers attack government's conspiracy theory in Deming gun-sales case", La Cruces Sun-News, 13 Jun 2012
....
Defense lawyers said Wednesday that the prosecution's conspiracy theory is based on generalities, leaps of logic, "self-serving" statements made by a cartel drug runner-turned-informant, and even inaccurate transcriptions of audio-recordings.
....
Lawyers said the family kept accurate records of firearms and ammunition they sold and acquired, and reported all sales of multiple firearms to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
....
Defense attorney Robert J. Gorence noted that Terri Reese contacted the Luna County Sheriff's Office in August 2010 to report a woman who bought seven AK-47 pistols in one day. The woman turned out to be a straw purchaser for Mexican cartels, and was subsequently arrested, according to testimony.
.....

Idiots and large quantities of firearms.
My, what an attractive combination.

Hypocritical? I guess. Since some on their agency might have made a mistake does this mean they should stop enforcing the law? Does this mean that every one of their agents is dirty? What is your solution? I think they are simply doing their jobs and some that would cry hypocrite should really ask if they want them disbanded because of the actions of a few and if they want them to stop enforcing good laws.

BTW, I don't think this thread will last long.

Apparently it will!

It may be hypocritical, but the law is the law. Just because some people get away with it doesn't mean everyone else should.

Apparantly laws only apply to the people, not members of the government. They are above the law.

This family may be dirty. There are signs that Ryin Reese was a rogue gun dealer. If the federal grand jury indictment is true; Reese sold guns to straw purchasers with the knowledge those guns would go to Mexico. Mama and Papa Reese tipped off straw purchasers whos guns were later recovered by federal agents.

The truth may be somewhere in the middle. Read the federal grand jury indictment here:

Sounds like the exact same thing Eric Holder and company did.

President Chavez in Venezuela has a full Kalashnikov factory there. Most of the AK's in Mexico are full auto from what I'm told.(Good source) Do you think that weapons might just be more available and cheaper from Venezuela than the USA?
I'm not saying that some guns are smuggled from the US but I really doubt that all the guns south of the border came from here.

Sorry if I got off topic....
