I went to a local gunshow this weekend and found some good deals on ammo and scope for my AR. I was really looking for a medium sized 9mm like a CZ-pcr or maybe a Glock 19 but there were none to be seen. There was a Kahr K-9 but it was blued and they wanted $600!

I almost missed the S&W 19-3 that i ended up getting because it had plastic pearl grips and I didn't give it a good look over until my firend ended up talking to the guy at the table. I was just standing there so I picked it up and looked at it. On closer inspection, it was in excellent condition and had a super smooth action. The SA trigger is match quality and the blueing had no touch ups or much wear. I rate it a strong 97%. It is funny how a crappy set of grips can almost make you overlook a gem.

I didn't think the price was too bad either, the tag said $295. Hmmm, I had a plan. I went out to my car and got my S&W 586 no-dash that I have been wanting to trade. It is a fine gun but I never warmed up to the underlug. The 4" 19 balances very well as does the 6" 19 that I have. I showed the guy the 586 and told him I wanted to do a trade. He pulled the gun dealer BS like I knew he would and said that he needed at least an extra $50 to do the deal. I knew that on paper, a straight up trade would be slightly to his advantage because 586s go for more than 19s in general. I told him that the best I could do was throw in $10. He said that that the grips on his 19 were what was making his gun worth more than mine because they were pearl and worth an extra $40. I said, keep the grips and I will take the gun without any since I have some at home. He kind of felt trapped because I called his bluff and and agreed. He took of the plastic grips and I had my gun!

I love this 19-3, it is P&R of course and has a chamfered cylinder. Do all 19-3 have chamfered cylinders or just some of them? I have not noticed. Anyway, it is a looker with a great deep blue finish that puts the finish on my 19-5 and 586 to shame. Not as nice as the finish on my dad's old 27 but not bad either. There is such a huge range in the blue finishes from S&W that you really have to see them in person to judge. That is why I have a hard time buying a used S&W on the Net.

That sucks! Why would they do that? The rest of the gun looks to be nearly mint but now that you said that, I looked at the chamfers and it may have been done by someone. Nothing else on the gun seemed messed with. The screws look like they were never taken out and it was not fired much. Maybe there was a flaw of some kind on one of the chambers and someone decided to chamfer it to make it look even. It is a very slight chamfer, not like on an older M&P or anything.

Don't know yet, I am going to shoot it this weekend if it doesn't rain. I still love it.
