Greetings all. I'm new on the site and I'm hoping ya'll can help me make a decision before I drive myself crazy. I'm trying to decide on a new rifle and I just can't make up my mind. I started out to get a TC Pro Hunter in 338 Federal, but decided that I really don't want that much recoil...I'm getting soft in my old age I guess. So, I started leaning towards the .270 or the 7MM-08. However, the cheapest I can find that gun is OTD for $880, and my brain just will not come to terms with paying that much for a break action, cock hammer, single shot....especially since I already have a Ruger No. 1 Stainless in 30-06 that I only paid $750 for in 2002. My next target gun was the Weatherby Vanguard SUB-MOA in 270 WSM. BUT, I want the dark timber colored stock instead of the standard brown/spider-web, and no one around here can figure out how to get me one with that stock on it. Also, I can't find one anywhere around here so I haven't even been able to handle one in a store and I'm very hesitant to purchase a gun that I haven't, at least, played with in the store. After that I just started looking at everything. Lots of folks like the Browning X-Bolt or A-Bolt, the Remington, etc... I've looked at all of them and i just can't get past how cheap the bolt feels on them. Last night at the local Bass Pro I looked at the Tikka T3 and really liked it. I came home, did some research, and all but decided I was going to get it in 270Win. or 270 WSM...until I read that 2005 article by Chuck Hawks about how cheap they are and read all those comments from some folks on this forum. Now, I'm completely lost again. I'm tired of researching and just want to go get me a dang gun. Of the guns I've handled, I like the TC Pro Hunter, the Sako Finnlight, and the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless. However, I'm still wondering about the Vanguard in the sub-moa model. Here's a list of the guns I currently own: Win. Mod 70 XTR Sporter 7MM with a Boyd's thumbhole stock, Win Mod 70 in .243 with a black syn. stock. Win Mod 70 Carbine in .308...yes, it's actually stamped (carbine) on the barrel..classic wood stock...any info on this gun would be appreciated too as I can't find out anything about the Win carbine. Finally, the Ruger No. 1 Stainless in 30-06. I want something totally different than what I currently have. I also prefer the synthetic stocks and stainless...if it's not too shiney, but I like blued guns too. I'm indecisive on the calibers, but have narrowed it down, I guess, to the 270 Win or 270 WSM...unless convinced otherwise. I'm a little worried the WSM may kick pretty bad in the Tikka or the Sako. I want to keep the price reasonable. Preferably uner 1K, but might go to 1.5K if I really love the gun. I'm sure I'll eventually make up my mind based on which gun just feels right...right now it's the Tikka. However, I will take any advice you have for me. Sorry to be so long winded, but thought it might help if ya'll knew what kind of idiot you're dealing with. Thanks all.

What you didn't say, and is of great importance, is what you plan to use it for? Many would say that if you have a Ruger Model 1 Stainless .30-06 you don't need anything else. Not that the rest of us are limited by need :)

I definately don't "NEED" another rifle. I just want one. I've got that Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket.

Well, the gun will mainly be used for whitetails, but I am about to retire from the military and can't think of anything better to do with that retirement check than put it in a hunting trip bank account. So hopefully I will be able to go on some great hunts in the future. I guess there is the possibility that I could wind up hunting just about anything. However, I won't let what I plan to hunt be the deciding factor. If I don't have what I need at the time...I will just buy me another one. :) I just want a sweet little rifle to add to the collection that's totally different than anything I already have.

CZ 527 Carbine in 7.52x39

A couple of years ago I purchased a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39 for hunting in the woods. It is light and has very mild recoil and I figured it would make a great first gun form my son. I have fallen in love with this gun for the woods and only use my 06 when hunting areas where 200 yrd shots might be taken.
Guess I'm just getting old

"And now for something completely different...."

How about one of the new Marlin 308MXLR lever guns?
Stainless steel, laminated stock, .308 performance, and only around 600 bucks. Perfect Whitetail gun. :)
